But, with the Aussies on fire and England suffering at 37-3, the rain came after the Lunch break and washed out the day. But after both players were dismissed at 168-2, England bowlers Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan and Graeme Swann terrorised the Aussies and rattled off 8 wickets for 56 runs to claim the win. England also got another great performance from Ian Bell (113 in the 2nd innings) (10, 45 minutes hi-lites of each day, 2 Discs, Channel 5 - Nicholas/Vaughan/Boycott/Martyn/Hughes, PAL)

Ashes 5th Test - Australia @ England - England ended the Ashes series in controversial circumstances with a drawn 5th Test. Australia looked well on their way to a 1st win after a 1st innings score of 492, but a washed-out 4th day meant that Australia needed to get England back in to bat on the last day to stand a chance of avoiding the draw. Set a target of 227 in 40 overs to win, England came out firing and moved to 206-5 when the umpires stopped play for bad light. Sensing an unthinkable 4-0 series loss, Aussie captain Michael Clarke took his team from the field and the umpires declared a draw. Australia had big games with the bat from Shane Watson (176 runs) and Steve Smith (138 runs) and with the ball from debutant James Faulkner (6 wickets). England's Ian Bell was named "Man of the Series". After a very tense 50 overs each, both teams were tied at 241 runs each. A "Super Over" was needed but even after that, the teams were tied. As a result, the result went to the 3rd tiebreaker : Most boundaries scored in the game. England led that statistic 27-16 and therefore won the game. Ashes 2nd Test - Australia @ England - England overcame the loss of the 1st Test with a tough, well-earned draw at Lord's. Both sides bowling attacks were on fire as England debuted fast-bowler Jofra Archer and he responded with 2 wickets in the 1st innings and 3 wickets in the 2nd innings. He was also responsible for a devastating bouncer that knocked Australia's star batsman Steve Smith out of the game with concussion. Having to bat 48 overs on the final day to save the game, Australia reached 132-3 in the 36th over, only to lose three wickets for 17 runs in the next five overs with Archer and Jack Leach leading the charge. With the light fading and the tension rising, England huffed and puffed but Aussie batsmen Travis Head and Pat Cummins saw the tourists to 154-6 to tie the match. England also featured a great batting attack from Ben Stokes, who scored 115 runs in the 2nd inning to give England a chance at a result (10, 45 minutes hi-lites of each day, 2 Discs, Channel 5 - Nicholas/Boycott/Vaughan/Johnson/Mitchell, PAL)

After being bowled out for 67 runs in the 1st inning, England were given a 2nd innings run chase of 359 to win. After a strong start, on the final day the wickets started to fall with Ben Stokes the only constant. When he was joined by the last man Jack Leach, England still needed 73 runs to win. Miraculously, through a combination of awesome shot selection and great defensive batting from Leach, Stokes scored 72 of the 73 runs needed to win the game (10, 45 minutes hi-lites of each day, 2 Discs, Channel 5 - Nicholas/Boycott/Vaughan/Johnson/Mitchell, PAL)
