The Xtreme, led by QB Tommy Maddox (38-65-412-4), were down 25-13 in the 4th quarter before Maddox brought the team back with a TD pass to WR Damon Dunn and a 1 yard TD run by RB Ken Oxendine. In the overtime period, Maddox threw 2 more TD passes and the defense shut-out Chicago to win the game. Regular Season - Week 1 - Los Angeles Wildcats (17) @ (37) Houston Roughnecks - Houston opened their inaugural season with a comeback win at TDECU Stadium. Both teams were evenly matched in the 1st half and Houston went in at the break with a slim 18-17 lead. But the Roughnecks dominated the 2nd half, scoring 19 unanswered points to take the win. Houston featured QB PJ Walker (23-39-272-4), RB James Butler (9-30-1) and WR Cam Phillips (4-67-1) with the Defense also racking up 5 sacks, 3 turnovers and conceding only 291 yards of total Offense. Regular Season - Week 1 - Tampa Bay Vipers (3) @ (23) New York Guardians - In the opening game of the season for both teams, it was the home-town Guardians who took the win with a dominating defensive performance. The Guardians defense forced 3 turnovers and 5 sacks while the Guardians Offense, led by QB Matt McGloin (15-29-182-1 + 1 TD run), paced the Offense to a 17-0 lead at the half. The Vipers huffed and puffed to make a game of it in the 2nd half, but the Guardians defense were relentless and saw out the game for the win. Regular Season - Week 2 - St.Louis Battlehawks (24) @ (28) Houston Roughnecks - In a battle between 2 unbeatens, it was the Roughnecks that took the win in a hard-fought game in Houston. The Roughnecks used a big 2nd quarter to take a 21-6 lead in at the half, and despite a strong 2nd half from St.Louis, the Roughnecks held on in the 4th quarter to take the win. The stars for Houston were QB PJ Walker (20-31-170-3), RB James Butler (7-28-1) and WR Cam Phillips (8-63-3). Regular Season - Week 2 - Tampa Bay Vipers (9) @ (17) Seattle Dragons - The Seattle Dragons won their 1st game of the season with a dramatic win at CenturyLink Field. The Dragons were terrible for 3.5 quarters and things looked bleak as they faced a 9-0 deficit. But Dragons QB Brandon Silvers (7-18-91-1) sparked a comeback with a 68 yard TD pass and this galvanised the team to score 17 unanswered points to sensationally take the win away from the Vipers. Seattle also featured RB's Trey Williams (11-45-0) and Kenneth Farrow (10-45-0), WR Keenan Reynolds (3-87-1) and DB Steve Williams (7 tackles, 1.5 sacks). Regular Season - Week 2 - Dallas Desperados (25) @ (18) Los Angeles Wildcats - Both teams started new QB's for their 2nd games of the season, and after a slow opening 3 quarters, the teams exploded for a combined 34 points, with Dallas on the winning side of the equation. Dallas held a slim 6-3 lead at the start of the 4th quarter before the shootout began. Both teams traded scores with Dallas scoring the winning TD with only 1 minute left to play. The Dallas defense then shut-out the Wildcats to secure the win, the franchises' first. The game pitted June Jones, the head coach of Houston, up against former mentor and Vipers defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville. Both teams were evenly matched in the 1st half and went in at the break tied 18-18. Tampa Bay hung around to take a 1 point lead at the start of the 4th quarter, but Houston scored again to re-take the lead then used 2 great Defensive stands to keep Tampa Bay from winning their 1st game of the season. The Dragons took a 12-6 lead in at the half, but a rejuvenated Dallas team leaned on their running game in the 2nd half and reeled of 18 unanswered points to take the win. The stars for Dallas were QB Landry Jones (30-41-274-3) and TE Donald Parham (5-101-2) who both had big games. Dallas also featured RB's Cameron Artis-Payne (13-80-0) and Lance Dunbar (8-23-0 + 9-56-0) and WR Flynn Nagel (5-39-1). Regular Season - Week 3 - DC Defenders (9) @ (39) Los Angeles Wildcats - In a huge upset in Carson, the Wildcats stunned the best team in the league with a dominating win over the unbeaten Defenders. The Wildcats defense was the star of the show, forcing 5 turnovers (4 interceptions, 1 fumble) while the Offense backed them up, running out to a 27-3 lead at the half. The 2nd half turned into a procession for the Wildcats, as the Defenders continued to struggle, and the hosts ran out easy winners. Regular Season - Week 4 - Houston Roughnecks (27) @ (20) Dallas Desperados - In the inaugural Texas Throwdown, the Houston Roughnecks moved to 4-0 on the season with a big win against their in-state neighbours. Houston used a great Defensive effort to beat Dallas, forcing 5 turnovers, including 3 interceptions of starting Dallas QB Landry Jones. Houston ran out to a 15-0 lead in the 2nd quarter before Dallas rallied to only trail 21-20 in the 4th quarter. But Houston closed the door on the Desperados comeback with 2 turnovers on the final 2 Dallas drives and the Roughnecks held on for the win. Regular Season - Week 4 - DC Defenders (0) @ (25) Tampa Bay Vipers - The Vipers finally registered their first win of the season with a shocking blanking of the Defenders in Tampa Bay. The Vipers defense dominated the game, holding DC to 107 yards of total Offense and only 6 first downs. The Vipers Offense dominated with their ground game, running for 256 yards and 2 TD's. Tampa Bay took a 16-0 lead in at the half and were never threatened after the break, running out easy winners. Regular Season - Week 4 - Los Angeles Wildcats (14) @ (17) New York Guardians - The Guardians improved their record to 2-2 with a big home win at MetLife Stadium. Guardians QB Luiz Perez (18-26-150-1), making his 1st start for the Guardians, led New York to a 14-6 lead at the half and the game-winning FG in the 4th quarter, but the Wildcats gifted the Guardians the win with their inability to convert 2nd half Offensive dominance into game-winning points. The Guardians also featured RB Darius Victor (18-82-0) and WR Colby Pearson (5-34-0). Regular Season - Week 5 - Seattle Dragons (23) @ (32) Houston Roughnecks - Houston once again proved they were the best team in the league with a comeback win against the resurgent Dragons. Seattle used a big game from new starting QB BJ Daniels (14-22-114-0 + 10-30-2) and a strong defensive performance (3 turnovers) to keep pace with the Roughnecks, taking a 23-14 lead in the 3rd quarter. But Houston rallied with 18 unanswered points and held on at the death in controversial fashion to take the win. The game ended with Houston turning over the ball on downs at their own 22 yard line, with 2 seconds left to play. But the officials somehow called the game over and Seattle didn't get a chance for one last play to tie the game. After the game, the XFL agreed that the offcials made an error but the result stood. Regular Season - Week 5 - New York Guardians (30) @ (12) Dallas Desperados - The Guardians continued their win streak with a strong win at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Both teams struggled for Offense in the 1st half and went in at the break tied 6-6. The 2nd half belonged to New York, as they reeled off 21 unanswered points to take control of the game. Both the Offense and the Defense contributed, with the Defense forcing 3 turnovers including a 33 yard interception returned for a TD. New York featured QB's Luis Perez (16-30-229-1) and Marquise Williams, RB Darius Victor (15-58-0) and WR Colby Pearson (5-95-1). Regular Season - Week 5 - Tampa Bay Vipers (34) @ (41) Los Angeles Wildcats - In arguably the game of the season, the Wildcats fought back from an early deficit to hold off the Vipers in a shootout in Carson. Both teams combined for 779 yards of total Offense and 7 turnovers. The Vipers started the better and ran out to a 17-0 lead in the 1st half. The Wildcats fought back to only trail 24-20 at the half then used the momentum to take a 41-27 lead in the 4th quarter. The game seemed won but the Vipers scored again and with the final drive of the game, the Vipers looked for the game-winning TD. But the Wildcats Defense stepped up and intercepted Vipers QB Cornelius in the end-zone to clinch the win. Los Angeles featured QB Josh Johnson (20-36-288-4 + 7-19-0), RB Martez Carter (5-15-0) and WR Jordan Smallwood (4-86-0). Tampa Bay featured QB Taylor Cornelius (22-34-300-2), RB DeVeon Smith (24-69-0) and WR's Jalen Tolliver (4-95-1) and Reece Horn (9-90-1).
