Group A - Germany (4) v (2) Costa Rica - The hosts Germany were awesome in attack but dire defending made the game closer than it should have been. Group C - Argentina (2) v (1) Ivory Coast - Both teams played quick attacking football but it was the Argentinians that had the better finishing as Hernan Crespo and Javier Saviola clinically proved. Group F - Australia (3) v (1) Japan - Japan goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi kept the Socceroos at bay for most of the match as Japan held onto a 1st half lead from Shunsuke Nakamura. Group H - Tunisia (2) v (2) Saudi Arabia - Saudi Arabia fought back from a 1-0 deficit to take the lead with 6 minutes remaining through Saudi legend Al Jaber. But Tunisia rescued a point with a last second equaliser from Rahdi Jaidi (8, No Post-Game, 2 Discs, BBC - Champion/Beglin, PAL)
Last 16 - Argentina (2) v (1) Mexico - Argentina won the game in extra-time with an awesome goal from Maxi Rodriguez, who chested the ball down and volleyed it into the net from the edge of the area (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Wilson/Lawrenson, PAL)

Last 16 - Spain (1) v (3) France - France qualified for the Quarter Finals with a huge upset of favoured Spain. A 1st half goal from Ribery levelled the game and 2 goals in the last 7 minutes from Vieira and Zidane sealed the win (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Tyldesley/Pleat, PAL)
Quarter Final - Germany (1) v (1) Argentina - Hosts Germany progressed to the Semi-Finals with a gutsy comeback against Argentina. Miroslav Klose cancelled out a Roberto Ayala opener to force extra-time. Neither team made the breakthrough and the game was decided on penalties with German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann saving 2 attempts. After the game ended both teams were involved in a brawl after an Argentinian player attacked a German player (9, 3 Discs, BBC - Drury/Pleat, PAL)
Quarter Final - England (0) v (0) Portugal - Both teams were well matched until England's Wayne Rooney was sent off for stamping on a Portuguese player. The game then played out to penalties as neither team was able to score. Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo saved 3 out of the 4 England penalties to send Portugal to the Semi-Finals. Semi-Final - Portugal (0) v (1) France - France reached the final with a Penalty goal from Zinedine Zidane after Thierry Henry was fouled in the box (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Motson/Lawrenson, PAL)
3rd Place - Germany (3) v (1) Portugal - Germany clinched 3rd place with Sebastien Schweinsteiger scoring 2 goals and having a 3rd shot deflected in for an own goal. Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn played his last ever game for Germany (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Wilson/Bright, PAL)
Final - Italy (1) v (1) France - Italy claimed their 1st World Cup since 1982 with a penalty shoot-out win over France. Zidane opened the scoring with a penalty but Italy responded with a header from Marco Materazzi. The game went into exra-time where Zidane was sensationally sent off for head-butting Materazzi.
