Group 3 - Czechoslovakia (1) v (4) Brazil - In Brazil's 1st game of the World Cup in Gudalajara, the South Americans overcame an early deficit to win the game. The Czechs struck first in the 11th minute but Brazil re-grouped and equalised in the 24th minute to go in 1-1 at the half. Brazil then dominated the 2nd half, scoring 3 more goals to take the win. The Czechoslovakia goal game from Ladislav Petráš. The Brazilian goals came from Rivelino, Pele and Jairzinho. Group 3 - England (0) v (1) Brazil - In one of the greatest World Cup games ever, the holders met the favourites. The game was settled by a strike from Jairzinho in the 60th minute but will be always remembered for Gordon Banks amazing save to deny Pele a 1st half goal, the greatest save of all time (9, 2002 BBC re-broadcast, 2 Discs, BBC - Coleman/Revie, PAL)
Quarter Final - Brazil (4) v (2) Peru - In an All-South American quarter final in Guadalajara, Brazil overcame a strong Peru team to advance to the Semi-Finals. Brazil raced out to a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes, but Peru pulled a goal back to go in 2-1 at the half. Both teams traded goals in the 2nd half, but Brazil kept their noses in front to run out winners. The Brazil goals came from Rivelino, Tostao (2) and Jairzinho. Quarter Final - England (2) v (3) West Germany - England were strolling along with a 2 goal lead when manager Alf Ramsey decided to substitute the engine room of the team, Bobby Charlton. The move backfired as West Germany found their rhythm and scored 2 goals to take the game to extra-time. England wilted in the heat and West Germany secured the upset and a semi-final place with a late goal (8, 1 Disc, BBC - Coleman, PAL)
Final - Brazil (4) v (1) Italy - Brazil - Brazil won their 3rd world cup with devastating skill and attacking flair.
