Group A - England (3) v (2) Finland - Hosts England survived a scare in their opening group game, taking the win with a late goal. England were coasting with a 2-0 half-time lead but the Fins came back into the game and scored just after the break and in the 88th minute to seemingly take a draw. England had 1 last chance and 17 year old Karen Carney knocked in the game-winner in injury time to take the points. The other England goals came from Amanda Barr and an Own Goal. England also featured Kelly Smith. The Finland goals came from Anna-Kaisa Rantanen and Laura Kalmari (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Wilson/Spacey, PAL)

2009
Final - England (2) v (6) Germany - Germany retained their European title with a dominating display against England. A close 1st half ended 2-1 to the Germans with goals from Birgit Prinz and Melanie Behringer (a 40 yarder), offset by a goal from Karen Carney. But the 2nd half was all Germany as they added 4 more goals from Kim Kulig, Inka Grings (2) and Birgit Prinz. 2012
Qualifier - Netherlands (0) @ (1) England - England kept their automatic qualification hopes alive with a big win against the top-of-the-table Dutch. A 2nd half goal from a free-kick from Rachel Yankey did the damage and despite late pressure from the Dutch, England held on for the win. The result put England 2 points behind Holland with 2 games to play and Holland with only 1 game to play. England were led by new captain Casey Stoney (Lincoln Ladies) who replaced the retired Faye White (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Adderley/Ward, PAL)

Qualifier - Croatia (0) @ (3) England - In their final qualification game for Euro 2013, England ended on a high, beating Croatia to finish top of the group. Goals from Jill Scott, Eniola Aluko and captain Casey Stoney did the job and England also kept a clean sheet for the 7th game in a row. Group C - England (2) v (3) Spain - In a dramatic game in Linkoping, England crashed to defeat in their opening match of the tournament. Twice the English team came back to tie the game, with the final equaliser in the 89th minute. But in the 4th minute of injury time, English goalkeeper Karen Bardsley saw a Spanish corner deflected into the goal off her head for Spain's winning goal. Group C - England (1) v (1) Russia - England kept their slim hopes of qualification for the next round alive with a late equaliser against Russia in Linkoping. The underdog Russians took a 1-0 lead in at the half through a goal from Nelli Korovkina. England dominated the 2nd half, creating the better chances, but had to wait until the last minute of injury time to score the equaliser from Toni Duggan. Group C - England (0) v (3) France - England were knocked out of the Euros after a comprehensive defeat to the French. England knew they needed to win to stay in the competition, but a 9th minute goal from Eugenie Le Sommer gave France the lead they protected to the end. 2nd half goals from Louisa Necib and Wendie Renard completed the scoring (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Mowbray/Ward, PAL)

Qualifier - Bosnia-Herzegovina (0) @ (1) England - In the wind and rain at Bristol's Ashton Gate, England kept their unbeaten start to the campaign going with a tight win over a well organised Bosnia team. The game was settled in the 69th minute with a goal from Jill Scott but England had several other chances, including hitting the bar, but the Bosnia goalkeeper Almina Hodzic had a good game to keep the score down (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Smith, PAL)

2016
Qualifier - Belgium (1) @ (1) England - Belgium stunned England in their Euro2017 qualification game, forcing the home side to come back from a 1-0 deficit to stay unbeaten in the group. Belgium scored in the 1st half with a goal from Janice Cayman then defended resolutely until the 85th minute when Jill Scott fired home the equaliser. The goal by Cayman was the first goal England had conceded in a home qualifier in almost 14 years (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Smith, PAL)

Qualifier - Serbia (0) @ (7) England - England re-energised their qualification campaign with a big win at Adams Park in Wycombe. Visitors Serbia were over-whelmed by England's attack and were behind 3-0 at half-time before conceding 4 more goals in the 2nd half. The England goal scorers were Karen Carney (3), Alex Greenwood, Rachel Daly (on debut), Ellen White and Izzy Christiansen (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Smith, PAL)

Qualifier - Estonia (0) @ (4) England - England secured qualification for the European Championships with a comfortable win at Meadow Lane. Qualifier - England (2) @ (0) Belgium - England finished top of their qualifying group with a hard-fought win in Belgium. Neither team could find a goal in the 1st half and England had to wait until the 65th minute for the opening goal from Nikita Parris. U17 Semi-Final - England (3) v (4) Germany - In a wild shootout in Zhodino, Belarus, Germany held off a determined England side to advance to the Final. Germany never trailed in the game, holding a 2-2 draw at the break after a flurry of goals in the 1st half. But the Germans took control in the 2nd half and scored 2 unanswered goals to lead 4-2 with 10 minutes left. England did pull a goal back but couldn't find the equaliser and Germany held on for the win. The Germany goals came from Vanessa Ziegler (2), Klara Bühl and Tanja Pawollek. 2017
Group D - England (6) v (0) Scotland - On a record-setting night in Utrecht, England got their campaign off to a great start with a big win over their big rivals. After early scares from the Scots, the English took control with 3 goals in each half to secure the win. The goal-scorers were Ellen White, Jordan Nobbs, Toni Duggan and Jodie Taylor (3) who became the first English player to score a hat-trick at a major tournament since 1997 (10, 2 Discs, Channel 4 - Bower/Ward/Booth, PAL)

Group D - England (2) v (0) Spain - England continued their unbeaten start to the competition with a strong win over Spain in Breda. England had a great start with Fran Kirby scoring in the 2nd minute but the result was settled in the 2nd half by 2 moments. Firstly, Spain were awarded a penalty for handball but the referee reversed her decision after deciding it was accidental. Then England used their good fortune to seal the win with a 2nd goal from Jodie Taylor in the 85th minute. Even though Spain dominated possession (78%), England proved more ruthless in front of goal, converting 2 of their 4 chances in to goals (9, 2 Discs, Channel 4 - Bower/Ward, PAL)

Group D - England (2) v (1) Portugal - A much-changed England team ended the group stage top of group D with a tight win against Portugal. England coach Mark Sampson changed 10 of the team from the previous match and it made for a dis-jointed game. England twice took the lead and held on for the win after a last-minute Portugal chance was well saved. The England goals came from Toni Duggan and Nikita Parris. The Portugal goal came from Caroline Mendes (9, 2 Discs, Channel 4 - Bower/Ward, PAL)

Quarter Final - Denmark (2) v (1) Germany - In a huge upset, Denmark came from behind to beat the defending champions and in the process ended Germany's 24 year win streak in the competition. The game was originally scheduled for the day before but was postponed after heavy rain made the pitch unplayable. When the game finally started the next day, Germany took the lead in the 3rd minute after a goalkeeper error. Denmark recovered, though, and scored 2 unanswered goals including the game-winner with 7 minutes to go for the sensational win. The Denmark goals came from Nadia Nadim and Theresa Nielsen. Quarter Final - England (1) v (0) France - For the first time in 43 years, England beat France in a competitive match and booked their place in the Semi-Finals. A very nervy match was settled in the 2nd half when England striker Jodie Taylor scored with the first shot on target by either side. France tried to mount a comeback but couldn't find the breakthrough and England held on for the historic win. Semi-Final - England (0) v (3) Netherlands - England's run in the tournament ended at the hands of the hosts, as the Netherlands dominated the game in all areas in a niggily affair in Enschede. With the win, the Dutch booked a place in their 1st ever Final. Final - Netherlands (4) v (2) Denmark - The Netherlands won their first major international tournament after a sensational game against Denmark in Enschede. The game swung in momentum with Denmark scoring first only for the Dutch to pull ahead 2-1. The Danes equalised before half-time and the game entered the break tied at 2-2. The 2nd half belonged to the Dutch as they turned the screw and scored 2 unanswered goals to win the title. The Dutch goals came from Vivianne Miedema (2), Lieke Martens and captain Sherida Spitse. 2022 - England
Group A - Norway (4) v (1) Northern Ireland - Norway opened their tournament campaign win a win over Northern Ireland, who were making their major tournament debut. The game was won in the 1st half as Norway took their chances and built a 3-0 half-time lead. The 2nd half proved momentus for the Northern Irish as Julie Nelson scored her Country's first tournament goal, but it didn't make a difference to the result. The Norway goals came from Julie Blakstad, Frida Maanum, Caroline Graham Hansen and Guro Reiten (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Redmond, PAL)

Group A - England (1) v (0) Austria - Hosts England opened their Tournament with a tight win in front of a record crowd for a European Women's Championship game at Old Trafford. 68,871 people saw Beth Mead score in the 16th minute but England struggled to find a 2nd goal and had to settle for just the win. Group A - England (8) v (0) Norway - In a sensational game at Brighton's Amex Stadium, England ruthlessley dispatched one of the favourites for the tournament, and took control of Group A. England dominated the 1st half and went in at the break with a 6-0 lead. A string of 2nd half substitutions by England saw the scoring slow down but England never looked in trouble. Group A - England (5) v (0) Northern Ireland - England completed their Group A matches at St.Mary's Stadium in Southampton with a another big win, and finished top of their group. Quarter Final - England (2) v (1) Spain - England booked a place in the Semi-Finals with a hard-fought comeback win at Brighton's Amex Stadium against a strong Spain team. Even though Spain were missing their star player, Alexia Putellas, they proved too good for England for most of the match and held a 1-0 lead with 6 minutes to play. But England's 2 substitutes, Alessia Russo and Ella Toone, combined to score the equaliser and force Extra-Time, where Georgia Stanway won the game with a sensational shot from outside the box (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Cowen/Brown-Finnis, PAL)

Semi-Final - England (4) v (0) Sweden - England reached their first major Women's tournament final since 2009, beating Olympic finalists Sweden at Bramall Lane in Sheffield. Sweden dominated the early going but paid for poor finishing as England made the most of their chances, scoring 4 goals on their 8 shots on target. With the win England extended their unbeaten streak to 19 games. The England goals came from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby. Semi-Final - Germany (2) v (1) France - In a match-up of 2 of the tournament favourites, it was Germany that booked a place in the Final with a tough win at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes. The game was tied at 1-1 at the half, but Germany clinched the win by scoring the game-winning goal 14 minutes from time which they defended to the end. Both the Germany goals came from Alexandra Popp. The France goal came from Kadidiatou Diani (9, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Ward, PAL)

Final - England (2) v (1) Germany - England won their first major Women's tournament with a dramatic extra-time win against old rivals and eight-time champions Germany at Wembley Stadium. Germany were missing star striker Alexandra Popp, who was injured in the warm-up, but England couldn't take advantage until the 62nd minute when Ella Toone scored. The lead only lasted 17 minutes before Lina Magull equalised for Germany, forcing extra-time. Both teams went for the win, and with 10 minutes to play, England's Chloe Kelly scored the game-winner to send the 87,192 fans at Wembley wild. The goal was Kelly's first for her country. The attendance set the record for the biggest crowd in the history of a Men's or Women's European Championships. The game also proved the final football match for Ellen White and Jill Scott, who both retired after the game. Group D - England (6) v (1) Wales - England booked a place in the Quarter Finals with a big win over Wales at the Kybunpark Stadium in St.Gallen. Goals from Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone (2), Lauren Hemp, Alessia Russo and Beth Mead did the damage as England were ruthless in front of goal. Quarter Final - England (2) v (2) Sweden - At the Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich, England survived a scare at the hands of Sweden to book a place in the Semi-Final. Sweden dominated the 1st half and deservedly went in at the break with a 2-0 lead. But England fought back and scored 2 goals in 2 minutes late in the game to force extra-time. Neither team could find the winner and the game went to penalties, where England prevailed 3-2 to win the game. The England goals came from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang. Semi-Final - England (2) v (1) Italy - In a sensational finish in Geneva, England overcame a determined Italy team in extra-time to book their place in the Final. Italy were the better team throughout the game, and held a 1-0 lead as the game entered the 6th minute of injury time. But England fashioned one last chance and substitute Michelle Agyemang fired home to force extra-time. And England rode the momentum to score again in the final minute of extra-time, on a controversial penalty, to book a place in their 3rd straight major tournament final. The other England goal came from Chloe Kelly. The Italy goal came from Barbara Bonansea (9, 2 Discs, ITV - Hutchinson/Ward, PAL)

Final - England (1) v (1) Spain - At St. Jakob-Park in Basel, England retained their European Championship trophy with a sensational penalty-shootout win over the tournament favourites. Spain had the better of the 1st half and went in at the break with a 1-0 lead. But England re-grouped and fought back to level the score in the 57th minute. Neither team could find a winner the rest of the way and the game went to penalties. And the English heroes turned out to be goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who saved 2 kicks, and Chloe Kelly, who scored the game-winning kick in emphatic fashion to win the game. The England goal came from Alessia Russo. The Spanish goal came from Mariona Caldentey. Spain also featured Aitana Bonmatí.
