Copa Libertadores - Final, Game 3 - Flamengo (2) v (0) Cobreloa - Flamengo finally won their first Copa Libertadores in a winner-takes-all game 3. Zico was inevitably the star for Flamengo, scoring a goal in each half. His 2nd goal was an awesome free-kick from just outside the area. He took just a 2 step run up before unleashing a monster kick that left the keeper rooted to the spot. Brasilia Campionato Regular Season - Figueirense (1) @ (2) Sao Paulo - Sao Paulo had a lot to thank their goalkeeper, Rogerio Ceni, for. He scored both their goals, 1 from a free kick and the other from a penalty, and then made a crucial save in the last minute to give Sao Paulo the points (9, 2 Discs, CH4 - Cotteril/Brazil, PAL)

South American Copa Libertadores, Last 16 2nd Leg - Palmeiras (1) @ (2) Sao Paulo - With the game tied at 1-1 from the 1st leg, it was all to play for. Sau Paulo scored 1st but Palmeiras levelled the tie again with a 2nd half goal. Sao Paulo were reduced to ten men but in the 87th minute, Sao Paulo got a controversial penalty. Early in the move, Palmeiras lost possession when a pass hit the referee and rebounded to a Sao Paulo player who raced into the penalty area and was chopped down. Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni scored the penalty but the referee asked for a re-kick. Ceni stepped up and scored again. The final minute ended in chaos as Ceni was pushed to the ground and a fight ensued. A Palmeiras player was sent off. South American Copa Libertadores, Last 16 2nd Leg - River Plate (3) @ (1) Corinithians - With the game at 3-2 to River Plate from the 1st leg, Cornithians knew they needed to attack to win the tie. But after scoring in the 1st half to level the tie, the Argentines fought back with 3 2nd half goals. As the final goal went in with 8 minutes left, the home fans knew the game was up and filed out. Some disgruntled fans started a riot and tried to storm the field. The game was abandoned with 6 minutes remaining. Argentina Tourneo Apertura - Boca Juniors (1) v (3) Estudiantes - Both sides finished the season level on points and the league was to be decided by a 1 game playoff, winner takes all. Boca scored 1st and looked in control until the had a man sent off. Copa Libertadores Quarter Final, 2nd Leg - Boca Juniors (0) @ (0) Newells Old Boys - The last 2 remaining Argentinian teams left in the competition faced off in Rosario and it was the home-town Old Boys that went through. Neither team could find the breakthrough during normal time so the game went to penalties, where Newell's out-lasted Boca 10-9 after 25 spot-kicks were taken. Newell's Old Boys featured Maxi Rodriguez and Gabriel Heinze. Boca featured Juan Román Riquelme (10, 2 Discs, ESPN UK - Speight, PAL)

Copa Libertadores 1st Leg - River Plate (2) @ (2) Boca Juniors - In the first ever Superclásico final of an international competition, both teams played out a thrilling draw in the 1st leg. For the first time ever, 2 teams from the same city contested the final and the atmosphere was electric. The home team Boca Juniors twice took the lead, but River Plate always had an answer and made sure the tie went to the 2nd leg level when they forced an own-goal in the 61st minute. The Boca goal-scorers were Ramón Ábila and Dario Benedetto. The other River goal came from Lucas Pratto (10, Re-Broadcast but complete, 1 Disc, Freesports - Downing, PAL)
Copa Libertadores 2nd Leg - Boca Juniors (1) v (3) River Plate - In a tense 2nd leg, played at the Bernabeu in Madrid, River Plate came back from a 1-0 deficit to win their 4th Copa Libertadores title. The 2nd leg was played in Madrid after River fans had attacked the Boca bus prior to the 2nd leg in Buenos Aires, injuring 2 players. To avoid further incidents, CONMEBOL moved the 2nd leg out of Argentina and to Madrid. Boca took the lead in the tie with a 1st half goal, but River roared back in the 2nd half and forced extra-time with a 68th minute goal. In extra-time, the game swung in River's favour when Boca had a man sent off and River scored to take the lead in the tie. In the final minute, Boca hit the post, River broke upfield and sensationally scored the clinching goal to win the cup. The River Plate goals came from Lucas Pratto, Juan Quintero and Gonzalo Martínez. The Boca goal came from Dario Benedetto (10, 2 Discs, Freesports - Dempsey, PAL)
