14/05/95 - Manchester United (1) @ (1) West Ham United - In the final game of the season, Manchester United needed to beat West Ham and hope that leaders Blackburn lost at Liverpool for the Red Devils to win the title. West Ham never adhered to the script, scoring first from Michael Hughes. United equalised through Brian McClair but the Hammers defended heroically to the end to deny the Reds the win. But Liverpool struck early with Robbie Fowler before Newcastle fought back to take a half-time lead through Les Ferdinand and David Ginola. The 2nd half saw an early equaliser from Robbie Fowler before Faustino Asprilla scored a superb goal to take the lead. - Southampton produced a major upset, demolishing a strong United team
at home. Goals from Egil Ostenstad (3), Eyal Berkovic (2) and a superb
Matt Le Tissier chip of United keeper Peter Schmeichel did the damage.
Southampton led 3-1 at the break and United were already down to 10-men
after Roy Keane was sent off. David May brought United back into the
game with a goal early in the 2nd half but the Saints pulled away with 3
goals in the final 7 minutes to take the win. The other United goals

25/08/97 - Sheffield Wednesday (2) @ (7) Blackburn Rovers - Blackburn continued their unbeaten start to the season with a goal-fest at Ewood Park on Monday Night Football. Rovers led 5-1 at the half with goals from Kevin Gallacher (2), Jason Wilcox, Chris Sutton and an own goal from Graham Hyde. They then sealed the win with 2 more goals in the 2nd half from Lars Bohinen and Sutton. The Owls goals both came from Benito Carbone, including a 30 yard screamer, before he was sent off after 60 minutes. Rovers also featured Colin Hendry and Stuart Ripley. 03/11/97 - Crystal Palace (2) @ (2) West Ham United - The infamous "Lights Out" game. Palace started strong with 2 early goals but West Ham clawed their way back into the game and equalised early in the 2nd half with a Frank Lampard goal. As he wheeled towards the crown to celebrate, the floodlights went out plunging the field into darkness. Ground electricians worked hard to fix the problem but the game was eventually abandoned.
