Qualifier - Montenegro (0) @ (0) England - Both teams remained unbeaten in the group after playing out a goal-less draw. FINALS
Group A - Poland (1) v (1) Greece - The opening game of the tournament was high on drama, as Greece fought back from a 1-0 deficit to almost take the points. Poland took a 1-0 lead in at the half with a goal from Robert Lewandowski while Greece were down to 10 men after Sokratis Papastathopoulos was sent off. But the Greeks introduced Dimitrios Salpingidis off the bench to start the 2nd half and he made an impact by scoring the equaliser and winning a penalty that saw Poland keeper Wojciech Szczesny also sent off. Greece missed the penalty though and neither team could find the winner the rest of the way so the game petered out to a draw (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Brotherton/Bright, PAL)

Group A - Russia (4) v (1) Czech Republic - Russia started their campaign with a bang, easily beating the Czechs in Wroclaw. With Andrei Arshavin pulling the strings in midfield, Russia led 2-0 at the half with goals from Alan Dzagoev and Roman Shirokov. The Czechs pulled a goal back at the start of the 2nd half from Vaclav Pilar but the Russians finished the game in style with 2 more goals from Dzagoev and Roman Pavlyuchenko (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Drury/Beglin, PAL)

Group A - Poland (1) v (1) Russia - In a highly-charged Warsaw against a back-drop of riots outside the stadium between Polish and Russian fans, the honours ended even with Poland keeping their qualification hopes alive. A 1st half goal from Alan Dzagoev gave Russia the advantage but Polish captain Jakub Blaszczykowski scored a great goal in the 2nd half to secure the draw (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Drury/Beglin, PAL)

Group B - Portugal (3) v (2) Denmark - Portugal stayed in the hunt for qualification to the knockout round with a sensational win in Lviv. Portugal started strong with a 2-0 lead after 36 minutes with goals from Pepe and Helder Postiga but Denmark levelled the tie with 2 goals from Nicklas Bendtner. Portugal had the last laugh though, as substitute Silvestre Varela scored with 3 minutes left to ensure Portugal took the win. Portugal's star striker Cristiano Ronaldo had a poor game, missing several clear chances to score (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)

Group B - Portugal (2) v (1) Netherlands - Portugal booked their place in the Quarter Finals with a comeback win against the Dutch and knocked the Dutch out of the competition. Holland opened the scoring with a goal from Rafael Van der Vaart but 2 goals from Cristiano Ronaldo (1 in each half) put Portugal in the driving seat and they held on for the win. The Netherlands finished the competition with no wins only 2 years on from reaching the World Cup Final (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)

Group C - Spain (1) v (1) Italy - The reigning champions Spain got off to a slow start in their quest to retain the trophy, coming from behind to take a draw. Both goals came in the 2nd half with Antonio Di Natale putting Italy in front before Cesc Fabregas equalised 3 minutes later. Both teams had chances late on but neither team could find the breakthrough. Spain controversially played most of the game without a striker, instead playing 6 midfield players (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Champion/Burley, PAL)

Group C - Spain (4) v (0) Republic of Ireland - In a rainy Gdansk, Spain dominated an over-matched Ireland team and knocked them out of the Competition. Goals from Fernando Torres (2), David Silva and Cesc Fabregas did the damage. Spain had 27 attempts at goal compared to only 6 for Ireland. The Irish were led by Robbie Keane (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Drury/Beglin, PAL)

Group C - Italy (2) v (0) Republic of Ireland - Italy knew they had to beat an Irish team that had already been eliminated to stand any chance of progressing to the next round, and thanks to a goal in each half they did. The goals came from Antonio Cassano and Mario Ballotelli and, with Spain beating Croatia, Italy knew that they would be playing in the next round (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Wilson/McCarthy, PAL)

Group D - France (1) v (1) England - The tie of the group ended with honours even as France recovered from a 1-0 deficit to take the draw. Both goals came in the 1st half with a Joleon Lescott goal for England (his 1st for his country) off-set by a goal from Samir Nasri. France had the bulk of the possession but England defended stoutly. England were led by Steven Gerrard and also featured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but were missing Wayne Rooney to suspension. France also featured Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)

Group D - Ukraine (2) v (1) Sweden - Tournament joint-hosts Ukraine started their campaign in dream fashion with an emotional win in Kiev. The hero was star striker Andriy Shevchenko who scored 2 goals in a 7 minute spell in the 2nd half to overturn a 1-0 deficit. The Sweden goal came from Zlatan Ibrahimovic but it proved to be the only high-light for the Swedes (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Keown, PAL)

Group D - France (2) v (0) Ukraine - In a bizarre match in Donetsk, France used a strong 2nd half performance to beat the co-hosts Ukraine. The match was suspended after 4 minutes of play due to a torrential downpour and thunder-storm, and when the game resumed after an hour break both teams struggled to find a rhythm. After the half-time interval, France took control with goals from Jeremy Menez and Yohan Cabaye and held on to win (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Chamnpion/Burley, PAL)

Group D - Sweden (2) v (3) England - England remained unbeaten in the group with a big comeback win against the Swedes. England led 1-0 at the half with a goal from Andy Carroll, but Sweden surged ahead 2-1 in the 2nd half thanks to an own-goal and a header from Olaf Mellberg. England re-grouped and took the game with goals from Theo Walcott (off the bench) and a great finish from Danny Welbeck. Sweden's star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a quiet night (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Mowbray/Lawrenson, PAL)

Group D - England (1) v (0) Ukraine - Against a partisan crowd in Donetsk, England qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament with a tight win against the co-hosts Ukraine. A 2nd half goal from Wayne Rooney proved to be the winner. England also had to survive a controversial no-call on a shot that had crossed the line but was not given by the linesman. With the win, England topped the group. The game proved to be the final competitive international match for Ukraine's star striker Andriy Shevchenko who retired after the game (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)

Quarter Final - Portugal (1) v (0) Czech Republic - Portugal made it through to the Semi-Finals thanks to a big game from captain Cristiano Ronaldo. He dominated the game in attack, having 8 shots, hitting the woodwork twice and finally scoring the game-winner in the 79th minute. Portugal dominated the match across the field, holding the Czechs to only 2 attempts on goal. The Czechs were missing captain Tomas Rosicky to injury (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Pearce/Keown, PAL)

Quarter Final - Italy (0) v (0) England - Italy ended England's run in the tournament in familiar fashion, knocking out the English in a penalty Shootout 4-2. Both teams were evenly matched in the 1st half but England tired in the 2nd half and extra-time and Italy dominated the game without finding the breakthrough. In the shootout, Italy keeper Gianluigi Buffon saved from Ashley Cole and Alessandro Diamanti scored to send the Italians through to the Semi-Finals (10, 3 Discs, BBC - Mowbray/Lawrenson, PAL)

Semi-Final - Portugal (0) v (0) Spain - Spain kept alive their hopes of winning an unprecedented 3 stright major tournaments with a tight win over Portugal on penalties. In a game of 3 parts, Portugal dominated the 1st half, the 2nd half was even and Spain dominated extra-time but neither team could find the breakthrough. The game went to penalties where Cesc Fabregas converted the winning kick in off the post to see Spain through. Portugal's star striker Cristiano Ronaldo had a tough night, finishing with 6 shots but only 1 on target (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Wilson/Keown, PAL)

Semi-Final - Germany (1) v (2) Italy - Italy stunned the favourites with a solid display in Warsaw to advance to their 1st European Championship final since 2000. Italy took the game to the Germans and were rewarded with a 2-0 lead at the half with both goals coming from Mario Balotelli. Italy then saw out the game with a strong defensive performance in the 2nd half, even when Mesut Ozil scored a penalty in injury time to make for a nervy finish. Man-of-the-match was Andrea Pirlo whose ball retention and passing frustrated the Germans all game (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Mowbray/Lawrenson, PAL)

Final - Spain (4) v (0) Italy - On a historic night in Kiev, Spain overwhelmed an unlucky Italy to take the title. Spain led 2-0 at the half with goals from David Silva and Jordi Alba and, after Italy were reduced to 10 men due to injury, Spain rounded off the win with 2 more goals from Chelsea players Fernando Torres and Juan Mata. The win ensured Spain became the 1st ever national team to win 3 straight major titles (Euro 2008, World Cup 2010, Euro 2012) and the 1st ever team to retain the European Championship (10, 2 Discs, BBC - Motson/Lawrenson, PAL)
