Group A - Malmo (0) @ (8) Real Madrid - Real Madrid finished their group stage top of the group with a big home win over Malmo. The 8-0 win equalled the Champions League record for margin of victory. Group B - Manchester United (2) @ (3) Wolfsburg - Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion in a game that they needed to win to progress. United started fast and led 1-0 after 10 minutes but were 2-1 down at the half. An equalising own-goal 8 minutes from the end would have seen them through to the next round as other results were in their favour, but 2 minutes later Wolfsburg scored again and they held on to the end for the win. Group D - Manchester City (3) @ (1) Sevilla - Manchester City clinched a spot in the last 16 with a great display of attacking football in Seville. City started fast with 2 goals in the opening 11 minutes before Sevilla pulled a goal back but City re-took the initiative with another goal before half-time. In the 2nd half, City comfortably saw out the game to take the win. The City goals came from Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and Wilfried Bony. Group E - Barcelona (1) @ (1) Roma - Barcelona opened the defense of their title in Rome's Olympic Stadium, but could only manage a draw in Lionel Messi's 100th Champions League game. Barcelona scored 1st with a goal from Luis Suarez, but Roma sensationally equalised with a 60 yard shot from Alessandro Florenzi that looped over Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and went in off the post. Group F - Bayern Munich (0) @ (2) Arsenal - Arsenal finally claimed their 1st win in the group with a tough home win against the Germans. Munich dominated the stats (73% to 23% possession) but Arsenal limited them to only 6 shots on target. Group G - Maccabi Tel-Aviv (0) @ (4) Chelsea - Chelsea started their European campaign with a big win at Stamford Bridge. The goals came from Willian, Oscar, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard also missed a penalty. Group H - Lyon (2) @ (0) Valencia - Gary Neville's 1st game in charge of Valencia ended with them being knocked out of the Champions League. Last 16, 2nd Leg - Juventus (2) @ (4) Bayern Munich - In a shootout in Munich, Bayern sensationally avoided elimination with a last second goal in regulation to force extra-time, then rode the momentum to score 2 more goals in the extra period that sealed the win. Juventus started fast and led 2-0 after 28 minutes. Bayern huffed and puffed but had to wait until the 73rd minute for a goal and, with time running out, Juventus looked favourites to go through. But in injury time, Thomas Müller equalised forcing extra-time. The Germans took advantage of a tiring Italian team to score 2 more goals and sealed the win to advance to the next round. Quarter Final, 1st Leg - Atletico Madrid (1) @ (2) Barcelona - In a battle between the 2 La Liga heavyweights, Barcelona fought back to take a slim lead into the 2nd leg. Atletico started the better and took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute with a goal from Fernando Torres. But the game turned 10 minutes later when Torres was sent off for a 2nd yellow card. Barcelona took advantage of this in the 2nd half and took control of the tie with 2 goals from Luis Suarez. Quarter Final, 2nd Leg - Barcelona (0) @ (2) Atletico Madrid - For only the 2nd time since 2007, Barcelona failed to make the Semi-Finals as Atletico stunned the Champions with a big win in an ill-tempered match. Atletico used a great defensive game-plan to keep Barcelona quiet, holding them to only 4 shots on target, while making their own 6 shots on target count with 2 goals. Quarter Final, 1st Leg - Manchester City (2) @ (2) Paris Saint-Germain - In a shootout in Paris, City secured a draw to take back to Manchester along with 2 away goals. A tight 1st half ended with the teams deadlocked at 1-1, and when PSG forged ahead in the 59th minute, the game seemed lost for City. But with 18 minutes left, Fernandinho atoned for an earlier mistake with a crucial tieing goal and City held on for the draw. The other City goal came from Kevin de Bruyne. Quarter Final, 2nd Leg - Paris Saint-Germain (0) @ (1) Manchester City - City booked a place in their 1st ever Champions League Semi-Final with an impressive display against the French Champions. Both sides were tentative and only combined for 15 shots on goal but City made their 1 shot on target count as Kevin de Bruyne scored the game and tie winner in the 76th minute. Semi-Final, 1st Leg - Bayern Munich (0) @ (1) Atletico Madrid - In a tight opening leg, Spanish team Atletico Madrid scored the only goal to take a precious lead into the 2nd leg in Germany. The hero was Saul Niguez who scored a fantastic solo goal in the 11th minute which he and his team-mates defended to the end. Bayern enjoyed 74% possession but could only manage 7 shots on target compared to 5 for Atletico (10, 2 Discs, BT Sport - Darke/Owen, PAL)
Semi-Final, 2nd Leg - Atletico Madrid (1) @ (2) Bayern Munich - Atletico Madrid reached their second Champions League final in three years by upsetting Bayern Munich on away goals in Munich. Bayern controlled the game (73% possession, 33 shots on goal) and levelled the tie on aggregate with a goal in the 31st minute. But the game turned 3 minutes later when Bayern missed a penalty that would have given them the lead. Atletico re-grouped at the half and scored the all-important away goal in the 54th minute, meaning Bayern had to score 2 more goals to win. Bayern did pull a goal back in the 74th minute but Atletico held on for the win. The Atletico goal came from Antonio Griezmann. Final - Real Madrid (1) v (1) Atletico Madrid - Real Madrid claimed their 11th European Cup with a penalty shootout win over their neighbours, Atletico. Real dominated the 1st half, using a slick passing game to cut open Atletico, and they were rewarded with a goal on 15 minutes from Sergio Ramos. Atletico re-grouped at half-time and fought their way back into the game. They missed a penalty 2 minutes into the 2nd half but finally found the equaliser after 79 minutes when substitute Yannick Carrasco scored. Extra-Time failed to find a winner so the game went to penalties and when Juanfran missed, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to score the winner.
