SOCCER - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

2013/14

Quarter Final, 2nd Leg - Paris St.Germain (0) @ (2) Chelsea - On a dramatic night at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea used a late goal to advance to the Semi-Finals. Chelsea were 3-1 down after the 1st leg and needed to win 2-0 to advance on the away-goals rule. A 1st half goal from substitute André Schürrle gave them the ideal start but it took until 3 minutes from time for Chelsea to get the result they needed when another substitute, Demba Ba, scored the clinching goal (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)

Quarter Final, 2nd Leg - Barcelona (0) @ (1) Atletico Madrid - In a battle between the #1 and #2 teams in Spain, it was the league leaders that won through, 2-1 on aggregate. Atletico dominated the game and took the lead in the 5th minute with a goal from Koke. Atletico also hit the woodwork 3 times while out-shooting Barcelona 15 shots to 12. The win put Atletico in the Semi-Finals for the 1st time since 1974 and condemned Barcelona to their 1st Quarter Final exit since 2007 (10, 2 Discs, SKY - Mann/Armstrong, PAL)

Semi-Final, 2nd Leg - Real Madrid (4) @ (0) Bayern Munich - Real Madrid booked a place in their 13th Final, and their 1st since 2002, with a sensational win in Munich. Real led 1-0 after the 1st leg but Bayern were favourites to win at home. Real scored 3 goals in the 1st half to effectively end the tie as a contest, then sealed the win with a late goal. The goals came from Sergio Ramos (2) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2). With his 2 goals Ronaldo became the competitions single-season leading goal-scorer (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)

Final - Real Madrid (4) v (1) Atletico Madrid - In the 1st Champions League final between 2 teams from the same city, it was Real Madrid that triumphed with an extra-time victory in Lisbon. Atletico scored 1st with a goal from Diego Godin, and still held the lead right into the 3rd minute of injury time before Sergio Ramos popped up to score and send the game into extra-time. Real then over-ran a tiring Atletico to score 3 unanswered goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the cup. The win gave Real Madrid their 10th European Cup win (10, 2 Discs, ITV - Tyldesley/Townsend, PAL)
