In a reversal of the Beijing Olympic Final, France stormed back on the
last leg to upset the favoured US team. Yannick Agnel of France was down
by 2 metres at the start of the last leg against Ryan Lochte but clawed
back the deficit to take the lead in the final 10 metres and held on

Swimming - Mens 200M Butterfly Final - South Africa's Chad le Clos ended the reign of two-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps with a dramatic victory in the 200m butterfly. Phelps was going for a record 3rd straight Olympic win in the event and led for the majority of the race but Clos finished strong and edged Phelps at the end by 0.05 seconds. With the Silver, Phelps equalled the record for the most medals won in an Olympics career with 18. Swimming - Mens 4 x 200M Freestyle Final - On a historic night at the Pool, the USA claimed Gold in a dominating Final that saw Michael Phelps claim his 19th Olympic medal. USA never trailed and led by 4 seconds entering the final leg and eventually finished 3 seconds ahead of France and 6.5 seconds ahead of China in Bronze medal position. The USA team comprised of Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, Ricky Berens and Phelps. - In a controversial finish at the Greenwich Arena, China retained
their Gold medal but Japan only claimed Silver after a successful appeal
that moved them from 4th place. The Japanese had a disasterous final
apparatus, falling from the Pommel Horse, and the judges scored them low
allowing Great Britain into Silver and Ukraine into Bronze. But the
Japanese appealed and were re-instated in Silver, dropping Team GB to

Joshua fought back from a 3 point deficit after 2 rounds to end the fight tied at 18-18. The judges enforced the countback rule and gave the result to Joshua. - Team USA made it through to their 5th straight Olympic Final, but
were made to fight all the way by a tough Canadian team. Canada did not
trail in the game until the final seconds of extra-time when Alex Morgan
scored from a header to send the USA through to the final. Canada got a
great game from striker Christine Sinclair as she scored all 3 of their

- Team GB kept their unbeaten run in the competition going with a tight
win over UAE. Great Britain led 1-0 at the half thanks to a headed goal

goal from Rashed Eisa. GB finally took control late on with goals from
Scott Sinclair and Daniel Sturridge to take the win and stay on course

At Wembley Stadium, Mexico upset the favourites Brazil with a goal in
each half to take their 1st ever Olympic football title. The goals came
from Oribe Peralta who scored his 1st goal 32 seconds after the start of
the game. Despite heavy pressure from the Brazilians, the Mexicans held
on and sealed the win with 15 minutes remaining with Peralta's 2nd
goal. Brazil's substitute Hulk pulled a goal back in injury time but it
was too late to affect the outcome. Brazil also featured Neymar, Oscar

Mens Basketball Quarter Final - USA (119) v (86) Australia - Team USA finally dispatched a tough Aussie team to advance to the next round of the tournament. The Aussies only trailed by 14 points entering the 4th quarter but Team USA, and especially Kobe Bryant, out-scored the Aussies 35-16 in the final quarter to take the win. Bryant (20 points) hit on 3 three-pointers to put clear daylight between the 2 teams. LeBron James also had a big game, recording a triple-double (11 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists), the 1st ever by a USA player at the Olympics.
