Regular Season - San Fernando Tigers (35) @ (40) Granada Hills Highlanders - Granada Hills Junior QB John Elway completed his first ever 4th quarter comeback with a 9 yard TD pass with 25 seconds left to win the game. Elway (25-54-442-4) threw 4 TD passes and ran in 1 TD but needed the late heroics to beat the Tigers. The coverage is Black and White Game Film with Radio Audio overlayed and is missing the last 26 seconds of video inc. the game winning TD although the audio is present. Their are 2 versions; In Version 1, the radio audio does not match the action as the Game Film is edited huddles but the radio broadcast is "As broadcast". California CIF Div-2A Final - Agoura Chargers (21) v (20) Yucaipa Thunderbirds - In a sensational finish, Agoura completed a 14-0 season and won their 1st CIF title with a last minute win in Riverside, California. Both teams were evenly matched in the 1st half with Yucaipa using the running game and Agoura using the passing game but turnovers kept Agoura off the score-sheet. Yucaipa led 6-0 at the half then extended their lead to 12-0 at the start of the 4th quarter before Agoura got untracked and scored 2 TD's to take the lead. Yucaipa responded with the go ahead score but Agoura mounted 1 last drive and won the game with a 27 yard desperation pass on a fourth-and-13 play with 22 seconds left in the game. Led by QB John Flynn (2 TD passes), RB Steve Bodnar (68 yards rushing + 2 TD's) and WR Rod Perry (3 catches for 32 yards), the Monarchs raced out to a 21-10 lead at the half then held on as the Lancers mounted a furious rally to take the win. California Div-3 Regular Season - Alemany Indians (15) @ (43) Notre Dame Knights - Notre Dame started their season with a bang, dominating the visting Indians with a big Offensive game. Led by star RB Justin Fargas (24-268-3 inc. a 75 yard TD run) and QB David DeMartinis (8-16-187-2 inc. TD passes of 59 and 71 yards), the Knights pulled away from the Indians in the 2nd quarter with a 21 point outburst to take a 33-7 lead in at the half that effectively ended the game. The Indians, led by QB Casey Clausen (8-20-120-1), RB Miguel Fletcher (19-113-0) and WR DeAndre Scott (5-57-1), struggled against a strong Knights Defense led by DL Travis Johnson. California CIFSS Div-5 Final - Santa Margarita Eagles (55) v (42) Tustin Tillers - Santa Margarita won its 2nd consecutive title with a shootout win over Tustin in front of 7,500 fans at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Field. The teams combined for 1,062 yards of total Offense and Santa Margarita scored on all but one of its nine possessions in the game. Both teams traded scores for most of the 1st half but the Eagles went in at the break with a decisive 31-20 lead. Despite the best efforts of the Tillers, the Eagles held on in the 2nd half and ran out winners, 55-42. The big stars on each team delivered ; Santa Margarita QB Carson Palmer (19-30-413-5) and Tustin RB Deshaun Foster (32-378-6) both had big games. California Div-1 Regular Season - Mater Dei Monarchs (51) v (37) Corona Centennial Huskies - In a wild shootout between the top 2 teams in the state of California, it was the #1 ranked Monarchs that ended up on top of the #2 ranked Huskies. Both teams combined for a state record 1298 yards of total offense, with Mater Dei QB Matt Barkley (21-31-364-2) and Centennial RB Ryan Bass (44-329-4) the main weapons. There were only 3 punts in the game. California Div-1 Final - De La Salle Spartans (37) v (31) Corona Centennial Huskies - De La Salle survived a furious Huskies comeback in the 2nd half to win the game and the State title. The Spartans capitalised on Huskies turnovers to race out to a 24-7 lead at the half but the Huskies regrouped and, after allowing an early Spartans TD, scored 24 unanswered points to tie the game. But the Spartans finally regrouped and had the last word with the deciding 25 yard TD pass with 5:09 left to claim their first ever State title. Intertsate Regular Season - Don Bosco Prep Ironmen (23) @ (21) De La Salle Spartans - In the 1st match-up between 2 heavyweights of High School Football, it was the visitors from New Jersey that claimed the win. The Spartans raced out to a 21-7 lead at the half courtesy of 2 TD runs by RB Terron Williams-Ward (6-27-2) and a TD pass from QB Wayne Blake (12-22-186-1). But after the break, Don Bosco shut down the Spartans offense and started a comeback that produced 16 unanswered points and was capped off by the winning FG with 10 seconds left. The #16 ranked Spartans made a close game of it though, and had a chance to win in the final 3 minutes after a blocked FG return but the Huskies defense held on to win. Intertsate Regular Season - Oaks Christian Lions (28) @ (25) Skyline Spartans - In a highly anticipated match-up between arguably the best teams in California and Washington, it was the Lions that came out on top. Oaks Christian started fast with QB Nick Montana (21-33-267-3) putting the Lions ahead 21-0 in the 2nd quarter but the Spartans QB Jake Heaps (14-32-265-2) brought Skyline back to 21-17 at the half. Both teams Defenses then took over and the Lions held on for the win despite a last minute drive by the Spartans to steal the victory. California CIF SS Final - Oaks Christian Lions (41) @ (42) Gardena Serra Cavaliers - For the first time since 2002, a string of 28 games, Oaks Christian suffered a playoff loss, losing to Serra in Overtime in the rain in Gardena. Both teams were unstoppable on Offense and the teams entered half-time tied at 21-21 and ended regulation tied at 35-35, forcing an Overtime period. The game was finally settled when Oaks Christian missed the PAT after taking the lead with a TD, allowing Serra to win the game with a TD and PAT of their own. 24/11/12 - California CIF Div-3 Semi-Final - Cardinal Newman Cardinals (37) v (42) Marin Catholic Wildcats - Marin Catholic sensationally fought back from a big 2nd half deficit to reach their 2nd straight Championship game. The Cardinals dominated the game early and held a 31-14 lead in the 3rd quarter before the Wildcats turned the game around with 28 unanswered points to take a 42-31 lead. The Cardinals got it back to 42-37 with 37 seconds remaining, but the Wildcats covered the onside kick and ran out the clock to take the win. But the Braves shut-down any chance of a comeback by scoring 21 unanswered points to pull away and take the win. California CIF Open Championship - De La Salle Spartans (21) v (52) Mater Dei Monarchs - #1 Mater Dei claimed their first CIF State Football Championship with a dominating win over the Spartans, and finished the season 15-0 for the first time in school history. The Monarchs jumped on the Spartans early, taking a 21-0 lead late in the 1st quarter. At that point, Mater Dei had racked 152 yards of Offense compared to only 3 yards for De La Salle. The Monarchs padded their lead to 34-14 at the half then coasted home in the 2nd half to win the title. The Mater Dei Defense had a huge game, forcing 5 turnovers including an 86 yard Interception return for a TD.
