17/11/85 - San Diego Chargers (24) @ (30) Denver Broncos - A wild game in Denver started and ended with Special Teams TD's with the Broncos getting the all-important final score to beat the Chargers in overtime. The Chargers opened the game with a 98 yard kick-off return for a TD by RB Gary Anderson and built a 14-7 lead at the half with Chargers QB Dan Fouts (23-45-245-1) leading the way. But in the 2nd half and primarily the 4th quarter, Broncos QB John Elway (28-50-261-1) guided the team to 17 points and overtime. The Broncos then clinched the improbable victory in overtime by blocking the potentially game-winning FG, which DB Louis Wright picked up and returned 60 yards for the winning TD. Broncos QB John Elway (22-32-338-4) had a big game but was helped by a good ground game from RB's Sammy Winder (17-79-0) and Gene Lang (12-46-0). A tight 1st half ended 20-17 to the Broncos but the Denver defense shut-out the Seahawks in the 2nd half as Elway led the Broncos to 20 unanswered points to seal the win. SUPERBOWL 22 - Washington Redskins (42) v (10) Denver Broncos - The Redskins claimed their 2nd Superbowl title with a record-setting game in San Diego. Denver raced out to a 10-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter but the Redskins replied with a Superbowl-record 35 points in the 2nd quarter to take control of the game. 31/10/88 - Denver Broncos (23) @ (55) Indianapolis Colts - In the first Monday Night Football game at the Hoosier Dome, the Colts stunned the Broncos thanks to a big game from star RB Eric Dickerson and a strong defensive effort. Dickerson (21-159-4) led the Colts to a 45-10 lead at the half while the defense forced 4 fumbles and 3 sacks to keep the Broncos out of scoring range until late in the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd half, both teams managed a TD and the Bears had a chance to win the game with a last play 40 yard FG but Butler's kick hit the upright, forcing Overtime. But it still needed a game winning FG with 16 seconds left for Denver to reach the Championship game. Elway marched the Broncos from his own 2 yard line to the Oilers 11 yard line in the final 2 minutes to set up the FG. The drive included two 4th down conversions. 30/11/92 - Denver Broncos (13) @ (16) Seattle Seahawks - The struggling Seahawks produced a stunning 4th quarter comeback to shock the Broncos on Monday Night Football. Denver were led by QB Tommy Maddox (11-26-127-1) who was subbing for an injured John Elway, and he led the Broncos to a 13-3 lead at the start of the 4th quarter. But the Seahawks suddenly found some Offense when back-up QB Stan Gelbaugh (12-21-164-1) entered the game for a struggling Kelly Stouffer (12-21-109-0) and he led Seattle to 10 unanswered points to tie the game and force Overtime. The game-tieing TD and conversion came on the last play of the game. Once in overtime, Seattle rode the momentum and Kicker John Kasay kicked the game-winning 32 FG to seal the win, only their 2nd of the season. 06/12/92 - Dallas Cowboys (31) @ (27) Denver Broncos - Dallas overcame a gutsy performance from a Denver side missing QB John Elway and won the game with a TD run with 2:47 to go. Dallas started strong with QB Troy Aikman (25-35-231-3) leading the way but Denver's dual-QB rotation of Tommy Maddox (10-17-104-3) and Shawn Moore (7-13-104-0) pulled the Broncos back and gave them a 3 point lead in the 4th quarter.
