A back and forth game, where neither team led by more than 7 points, the #17 ranked Panthers found themselves down 31-24 with 3:41 to play in the game. But in a 14-second spell, the Panthers scored 2 unanswered TD's (a 24 yard TD pass and a 56 yard Interception return for a TD) that flipped the game on it's head and gave the record crowd of 70,622 plenty a win to cheer for. After a slow 1st half that the Seminoles led 7-3 at the break, the game exploded in the 2nd half, as the Seminoles took a 24-10 lead with 8:29 to play. But the Tigers fought back and closed within 1 point with a last-play TD after a sensational 99 yard drive, only to see the game-tieing PAT blocked, giving Florida State the big win. But in the 2nd overtime, Army forced a goal-line fumble from Navy to stop them scoring, then used a FG of their own to win the game. The Beavers racked up 353 yards of Total Offense while the Defense held the Gators to just 39 yards rushing. 17/12/22 - New Mexico Bowl - BYU (24) v (23) SMU - A re-match of the 1980 Holiday Bowl provided its own drama, as BYU hung on at the death to win the New Mexico Bowl. BYU looked to have the game in hand as it led 24-10 at the start of the 4th quarter, but SMU rallied to score 2 TD's and pull within a PAT of forcing Overtime with 8 seconds left. SMU coach Rhett Lashlee decided to go for the win though, and BYU stuffed the QB run to preserve the lead and take the win. But the Aggies held on to take the win and give Coach Jerry Kill his first ever Bowl win.
