A much-anticipated match-up between the Big-12 ball control of the Bears and the SEC "chuck-and-duck" of the Rebels failed to materialise after Rebels star QB Matt Corral (2-6-10-0 + 7-17-0) left the game injured in the 1st quarter. The Bears Defense then took control of the game, forcing 10 sacks and 3 interceptions (including a Sugar Bowl record 96 yard return for a TD), and coasted home to the win. Baylor featured QB Gerry Bohanon (7-17-40-1 + 6-20-0), RB Abram Smith (25-172-0), WR Drew Estrada (2-14-0) and game MVP LB Terrel Bernard (17 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles-for-a-loss). Mississippi also featured back-up QB Luke Altmyer (15-28-174-1), RB's Jerrion Ealy (12-65-0) and Snoop Conner (11-42-0) and WR Dontario Drummond (9-104-0) (9, 2 Discs, ESPN - Tessitore/McElroy/George, PAL)
05/01/22 - Texas Bowl - Kansas State (42) v (20) LSU - In a mis-match in Houston, unranked Kansas State dominated unranked and short-handed LSU to finish their season 8-5. The Tigers only suited up 38 scholarship players and started 5th-year WR Jontre Kirklin (7-11-138-3 + 11-61-0) at QB due to transfers, and the Wildcats took advantage, running out to a 42-7 lead halfway through the 4th quarter and coasted home. Kansas State featured QB Skylar Thompson (21-28-259-3), RB Deuce Vaughn (21-146-3) and WR's Phillip Brooks (5-69-0), Malik Knowles (3-42-2) and Kade Warner (3-42-0), son of former NFL QB Kurt Warner. LSU also featured Corey Kiner (14-53-0) and WR Chris Hilton Jr. (1-81-1) and Jaray Jenkins (1-23-1) (9, JIP 12:10 1st Quarter - No scoring missed, 2 Discs, ESPN - Hart/Hasselbeck/Riggs, PAL)
10/01/22 - College Football Playoff National Championship - Georgia (33) v (18) Alabama - #3 ranked Georgia won their 3rd National Championship, and their first since 1980, with a 4th-quarter-comeback against their nemesis, #1 ranked Alabama. Both teams played out an old-fashioned SEC defensive slug-fest for 3 quarters, before the Bulldogs overturned an 18-13 deficit with 10 minutes to play with 3 unanswered TD's that won them the title. The star for the Bulldogs was former walk-on QB Stetson Bennett (17-26-224-2), who had a huge 4th quarter. Georgia also featured RB Zamir White (13-84-1), WR Brock Bowers (4-36-1) and LB's Nolan Smith (7 tackles, 1 sack) and Nakobe Dean (4 tackles). Alabama featured QB Bryce Young (35-57-369-1), RB Brian Robinson Jr. (22-68-0), WR Cameron Latu (5-102-1) and LB Will Anderson Jr. (4 tackles).
