02/09/10 - Southern Mississippi (13) @ (41) South Carolina - The Gamecocks opened their season with a big win, using a dominating ground game to overwhelm the Golden Eagles. South Carolina took a 24-6 lead at the half and never looked back, as QB Stephen Garcia (16-23-193-0 + 5-38-2) and RB Marcus Lattimore (14-54-2) paced the Offense to 224 yards rushing. 02/09/10 - USC (49) @ (36) Hawaii - The post-Pete Carroll era started with a bang in Hawaii as new coach Lane Kiffin registered his 1st win as USC coach. USC QB Matt Barkley (18-23-257-5) was the star, tieing a team record with 5 TD passes and he needed all of them as the USC defense gave up 588 yards of total Offense to the Warriors. Hawaii were led by QB's Bryant Moniz (18-36-269-1) and Shane Austin (6-9-141-2) but the Warriors defense couldn't keep up with the USC Offense that also featured RB Marc Tyler (17-154-1) and WR Ronald Johnson (7-59-3 + 89 yard punt return TD) (10, 2 Discs, ESPN - Jones/Davie/Rowe, PAL)
04/09/10 - Jacksonville State (49) @ (48) Mississippi - In the opening game of the season, Jacksonville State stunned Mississippi in 2 overtimes to give the Rebels their 1st ever loss against an FCS team. Ole Miss led 31-10 at the half with QB Nathan Stanley (6-10-133-3) leading the way. But the Gamecocks outscored the Rebels 24-3 in the 2nd half to force overtime, with QB's Marques Ivory (13-23-126-2) and Coty Blanchard (9-13-126-2) pulling the strings. The Gamecocks finally took the win in dramatic fashion, scoring on a 4th down 30 yard TD pass in the 2nd overtime then converting the 2 point play to shock their hosts. Jacksonville State also featured RB Calvin Middleton (17-67-1). 04/09/10 - Connecticut (10) @ (30) Michigan - Michigan celebrated the opening of the new enlarged stadium with a big win against UConn. In front of an NCAA record crowd of 113,090 fans, the Wolverines QB Denard Robinson (19-22-186-1 + 29-197-1) ran and passed his team to victory while setting a team record for rushing yards by a QB. UConn QB Zach Frazier (18-37-205-0) and RB Jordan Tolman (20-105-1) played well in defeat but a Tolman fumble at the Michigan goal-line in the 3rd quarter ended any chance of a UConn comeback (10, 2 Discs, ESPN - McDonough/Millen/Cox, PAL)
04/09/10 - LSU (30) v (24) North Carolina - North Carolina staged a sensational 2nd half comeback to almost shock #21 ranked LSU. The Tarheels were missing 13 players to suspension, with 6 starters from the Defense, and it showed as the Tigers led 30-10 at the half with LSU QB Jordan Jefferson (15-21-151-2) and RB Stevan Ridley (19-81-0) leading the way. But the Tarheels staged a sensational comeback, led by QB TJ Yates (28-46-412-3) and WR Jheranie Boyd (6-221-1 inc. 97 yard TD catch), and trailing by 6 points in the final seconds, they had 2 shots from the LSU 6 yard line to take the win but came up just short. 04/09/10 - Sacramento State (17) @ (52) Stanford - Stanford started their season with a bang, posting 529 total yards to beat the Hornets. Stanford QB Andrew Luck (17-23-316-4 including 81 and 59 yard TD passes) had a big game as the Cardinal raced to a 38-7 lead at the half and coasted home. He was helped along by RB's Jeremy Stewart, Tyler Gaffney and Anthony Wilkerson who amassed 213 yards rushing. 05/09/10 - SMU (27) @ (35) Texas Tech - The 1st game as coach of Texas Tech for Tommy Tuberville ended positively as the Red Raiders held off a late SMU charge to take the win. Tech QB Taylor Potts (34-53-359-4) and WR Lyle Leong (11-142-3) both had big games, pacing Tech to a 28-7 lead in the 3rd quarter. But SMU QB Kyle Padron (21-38-218-2) and the SMU defense fought back and closed the gap to 8 points before the Tech defense closed the door with a late stand (10, 2 Discs, ESPN - Jones/Davie/Rowe, PAL)
05/09/10 - Tulsa (49) @ (51) East Carolina - In a wild shootout in Greenville, East Carolina opened their season with a win, but only just as they had to score a last play TD to do so. After a quiet 1st half that ended 17-16 to the Pirates, both teams heated up with Pirates QB Dominique Davis (27-46-383-5), on debut, and Hurricanes QB GJ.Kinne (28-43-399-5) leading the way. Both teams combined for 10 consecutive possessions that ended in a TD, and 1,117 yards of total offense and the game came down to the last play as Davis threw a 33 yard "Hail Mary" TD pass to take the win. 06/09/10 - Boise State (33) v (30) Virginia Tech - #3 ranked Boise State showed they are for real with a big win over #10 ranked Virginia Tech. The Broncos started fast and led 17-0 after the 1st quarter, but the Hokies fought back and led 30-26 in the 4th quarter before Broncos QB Kellen Moore (23-38-215-3) put Boise State ahead for good with the winning TD pass with 1:14 left in the game. Boise State also featured RB Doug Martin (12-83-0) and WR Austin Pettis (6-73-2). 11/09/10 - Texas Tech (52) @ (17) New Mexico - Texas Tech continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable win in Albuquerque. Led by QB Taylor Potts (22-34-293-3), Tech opened up a 21-3 lead in the 1st quarter and closed out the game by keeping the Lobos scoreless in the 2nd half. Texas Tech also featured WR Lyle Leong (5-75-2), RB's Eric Stephens (10-46-0) and Baron Batch (10-32-0) + LB Bront Bird (9 tackles). 11/09/10 - Oregon (48) @ (13) Tennessee - #7 ranked Oregon showed their BCS title potential by overcoming a 13-3 deficit in the 1st half to score 35 unanswered points and take the win. As the rain fell in Knoxville, the Ducks took control of the game with QB Darron Thomas (17-32-202-2) and RB LaMichael James (16-134-1 inc. 72 yard TD run) leading the way. Oregon also scored on a 75 yard interception return TD and on an 80 yard punt return TD. 11/09/10 - Stanford (35) @ (0) UCLA - Stanford opened their Pac-10 account with a big win against the Bruins. Stanford won at the Rose Bowl for the 1st time since 1996 and recorded their 1st road shutout since 1974 as QB Andrew Luck (11-24-151-2) and the Cardinal defense (4 forced turnovers, 1 fumble recovered for a TD) had big games. 11/09/10 - Michigan (28) @ (24) Notre Dame - The 2 old enemies faced off in South Bend and, after a shootout, Michigan ended up with the win. The star for the Wolverines was QB Denard Robinson (24-40-244-1 + 28-258-2) who set team records for total offense by a QB (502 yards) and most rushing yards by a QB (258 yards) and also set a record for longest opposition run at Notre Dame Stadium (87 yards). Both teams combined for 1,067 yards of total offense. Michigan led 21-7 at the half but Notre Dame fought back in the 2nd half to take a 24-21 lead with 4:28 left in the game when QB Dayne Crist (13-25-277-2) threw a 95 yard TD pass. But that left enough time for Michigan to drive to the winning TD with 27 seconds left, a 2 yard run by Robinson. 18/09/10 - Texas (24) @ (14) Texas Tech - #6 ranked Texas avenged their 2008 loss to the Red Raiders with a tough win in Lubbock. Texas QB Garrett Gilbert (21-36-227-2) had an up-and-down game in his 1st ever road start, overcoming 3 interceptions to lead a 4th quarter drive to the game-clinching TD. The game was tied 14-14 at the half but the Texas defense kept the Red Raiders quiet in the 2nd half to allow Gilbert to take control. 18/09/10 - Arkansas (31) @ (24) Georgia - Arkansas kept their unbeaten record intact but only just, as they survived a big 4th quarter comeback by the Bulldogs to win the game on a last minute TD. The Razorbacks led 24-10 at the start of the 4th quarter thanks to QB Ryan Mallett (21-33-380-3), but Georgia levelled the game with TD's from QB Aaron Murray (15-27-253-1) and RB Washaun Ealey (18-87-1). Mallett had 1 last chance to get his team into FG range but instead won the game with a 40 yard TD pass with 17 seconds remaining. 18/09/10 - Notre Dame (31) @ (34) Michigan State - In a sensational finish, the Spartans avenged their 2009 loss to the Irish with a fake FG that went for a TD in overtime. A slow 1st half saw the teams tied 7-7 at the half but Irish QB Dayne Crist (32-55-369-4) and Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins (23-33-245-2) got their teams going in the 2nd half and both teams ended up tied 28-28 at the end of 4 quarters. 18/09/10 - Wake Forest (24) @ (68) Stanford - Stanford didn't let the evening kick-off slow them down as they avenged their 2009 loss to the Demon Deacons with a strong win in Palo Alto, scoring their most points in game since 1968. Led by QB Andrew Luck (17-23-207-4 + 52 yard TD run), Stanford jumped out to a 41-10 lead at the half and coasted home. Luck also had help from RB Tyler Gaffney (7-76-2) and WR Chris Owusu (3-65-2) + a defense that held Wake Forest to 283 yards of total offense and forced 2 turnovers. 25/09/10 - UCLA (34) @ (12) Texas - In a huge upset, UCLA used a strong all-around game to beat #7 ranked Texas. Led by QB Kevin Prince (5-8-27-1 + 13-50-1) and RB's Johnathan Franklin (19-118-1) and Derrick Coleman (16-94-1), the Bruins put up 264 yards rushing while the Defense forced 4 fumbles, 1 interception and 2 sacks. 25/09/10 - Oregon State (24) @ (37) Boise State - The #3 ranked Broncos made a statement in Primetime with a big win over the Beavers. Led by QB Kellen Moore (19-27-288-3), Boise State jumped out to a 24-10 lead at the half and held off a small fight-back by the Beavers in the 2nd half to take the win. The Broncos also featured RB Doug Martin (19-138-0) and WR's Titus Young (5-136-1) and Austin Pettis (4-62-1 + 1 TD pass). 25/09/10 - Texas A&M (35) @ (38) Oklahoma State - In a shoot-out in Stillwater, the Cowboys kept their unbeaten record but only after kicking a 31 yard FG with 2 secs left. The stars for each team had a big game ; Aggie QB Jerrod Johnson (40-62-409-5) and Cowboy RB Kendall Hunter (22-101-2). But it was the turnovers by Johnson that doomed the Aggies as he had 1 fumble, returned for a TD, and 4 interceptions, the last of which set up the game winning FG. 25/09/10 - Stanford (37) @ (14) Notre Dame - #16 ranked Stanford finally beat Notre Dame in South Bend after a 20 year wait. Even though the Cardinal offense was not at it's best, the Defense and Special Teams picked up the slack. Kicker Nate Whitaker had 5 FG's and the defense forced 2 turnovers with LB Owen Marecic returning an interception for a TD. Stanford QB Andrew Luck (19-32-238-1) had a quiet game but was helped out by RB Stepfan Taylor (28-108-0). 01/10/10 - BYU (16) @ (31) Utah State - The Utah State Aggies finally beat their in-state rivals from BYU for the 1st time since 1993. The star was Utah State QB Diondre Borel (10-13-192-1 + 10-68-1) who made big plays at the right time, including a 79 yard TD pass, as he led the Aggies to a 24-3 lead at the half and never looked back. 02/10/10 - Washington (32) @ (31) USC - Lightning struck twice for the Huskies as for the 2nd year running, Washington kicked the game-winning FG on the last play of the game. Both teams were evenly matched with Huskies QB Jake Locker (24-40-310-1 + 12-111-0) and USC RB Allen Bradford (21-223-2) both having big games but the game was decided in the final minutes when USC missed a FG that would have put them ahead by 5 points. This allowed Locker to drive the Huskies into FG range where kicker Erik Folk drilled a 32 yard FG on the last play for the win. 02/10/10 - Texas (20) v (28) Oklahoma - The Red River shoot-out went the way of the Sooners, as they built a big lead in the 1st half and held on in the 2nd half. Oklahoma RB DeMarco Murray (25-115-2) had a big 1st half, as the Sooners went in at the break with a 21-7 lead. The Longhorns did fight back, led by QB Garrett Gilbert (27-41-266-0), and trailed 28-20 in the final 2 minutes but fumbled a punt that would have given them 1 last chance. 02/10/10 - Michigan (42) @ (35) Indiana - On a record setting day in Bloomington, Michigan continued their unbeaten streak with a close win over the Hoosiers. Wolverines QB Denard Robinson (10-16-277-3 + 19-217-2 including 72 yard TD run and 70 yard TD pass) and Indiana QB Ben Chappell (45-64-460-3) both had big days but the game came down to who had the ball last and it was Robinson who won the game with a 5 yard TD run with 21 seconds left. 09/10/10 - Texas Tech (45) v (38) Baylor - Texas Tech continued their winning streak against Baylor, but only just in a record-setting game at the Cotton Bowl stadium. After a 1st half shootout, Tech led 35-28 with Tech QB Taylor Potts (42-59-462-4) and Baylor QB Robert Griffin (31-42-384-2 + 11-18-2) having big games. The defenses went to work in the 2nd half but Baylor couldn't get any nearer than 7 points and Tech held on for the win (10, 2 Discs, FOX - Meyers/Lapham/Knox, NTSC)
09/10/10 - USC (35) @ (37) Stanford - For the 2nd year in a row, Stanford beat the Trojans, but needed a last play FG to do the job. The game turned into a shootout between USC QB Matt Barkley (28-45-390-3) and Stanford QB Andrew Luck (20-24-285-3) and it was Luck that led the game-winning drive in the final minute to set up the 30 yard FG on the final play that moved Stanford to 5-1. 09/10/10 - Alabama (21) @ (35) South Carolina - The Gamecocks finally ended their losing streak against teams ranked in the top 3 with a dominating win over #1 ranked Alabama. South Carolina last beat a top 3 team in 1981 and this win ended the Tide's 19 game win streak. The Gamecocks raced out to a 21-3 lead in the 2nd quarter with QB Stephen Garcia (17-20-201-3) and RB Marcus Lattimore (23-93-2) leading the way. The Tide fought back to 21-14 on the arm of QB Greg McElroy (27-34-315-2), but the Gamecocks pulled away late to take the upset win. 09/10/10 - LSU (33) @ (29) Florida - The battle between the 2 heavyweights of the SEC produced another heart-stopping game as the Tigers scored the winning TD with 6 seconds left. Both teams matched each others' scores throughout the game, with Florida QB John Brantley (16-24-154-0) battling the 2 LSU QB's Jordan Jefferson (7-12-100-0 + 11-42-2) and Jarrett Lee (9-11-124-2). But as the game entered the final minute the Tigers were down 29-26 and facing a 4th down FG opportunity. LSU coach Les Miles called a fake, that barely worked, and Lee made the call work by throwing a 3 yard TD pass with 6 seconds left to take the win. LSU also featured RB Stevan Ridley. 16/10/10 - Arkansas (43) @ (65) Auburn - A wild shootout finally went the way of the home team, as the #7 ranked Tigers used a big 4th quarter to beat the Razorbacks. Both teams combined 1,036 yards of total offense, with Auburn led by QB Cam Newton (10-14-140-1 + 25-188-3) and Arkansas led by back-up QB QB Tyler Wilson (25-34-332-4), who replaced starter Ryan Mallett (10-15-96-1) after he left with a 1st half concussion. Both teams matched scores through 3 quarters, as Auburn led 27-21 at the half and 37-35 at the end of the 3rd quarter, before the Tigers scored 28 points in the final quarter to take the win. 16/10/10 - Minnesota (17) @ (28) Purdue - Under-strength Purdue still had too much for struggling Minnesota, as the Boilermakers cruised to an easy win in West Lafayette. Playing without their starting QB, WR and RB the Boilermakers turned to QB Rob Henry (13-20-163-1 + 17-57-3) and RB Dan Dierking (12-126-0) and they built a 21-0 lead in the 3rd quarter before Minnesota, led by QB Adam Weber (20-45-214-2), started a mini-comeback. But Purdue intercepted Weber in the final minute to win the game. The next day, Minnesota fired Head Coach Tim Brewster. Purdue wore 2001 throwback uniforms to celebrate the 2001 Rose Bowl team and the game was also memorable for the 1st time a father and son both worked the same college game from the broadcast booth as Bob and Brian Griese added the colour commentary (9, Slight Pixellation, 1 Disc, ESPN 2 - Pasch/Griese/Griese, PAL)
16/10/10 - Houston (31) @ (34) Rice - In the annual battle of Houston, Rice wrestled back the Bayou Bucket from the Cougars to take city bragging rights. Led by QB Nick Fanuzzi (14-21-206-3) the Owls started fast and took a 27-7 lead in the 2nd Quarter before Houston, led by QB David Piland (23-45-282-3), scored 24 unanswered points to take a 31-27 4th quarter lead. Rice re-took the lead with 4 minutes left and used a 4th down defensive stand to clinch the win (9, 1 Disc, Comcast - Stewart/Rackley/McIlvoy, NTSC)
16/10/10 - Ohio State (18) @ (31) Wisconsin - In a raucous Camp Randall Stadium, the Badgers knocked off the #1 ranked Buckeyes. Wisconsin flew out of the gate, opening the scoring with a 95 yard return of the opening kick-off, and led 21-3 at the half. The Buckeyes did pull to within 21-18 but the Badgers closed out the game with 10 unanswered points to take the win. Wisconsin were led by RB John Clay (21-104-2) and also featured QB Scott Tolzien (13-16-152-0). 21/10/10 - UCLA (13) @ (60) Oregon - The #1 ranked Ducks gave their fans lots to cheer about as they overwhelmed UCLA. Oregon out-gained UCLA by 582 yards to 290 yards with QB Darron Thomas (22-31-308-3) and RB LaMichael James (20-123-2) leading the way. 23/10/10 - LSU (17) @ (24) Auburn - A battle of the unbeatens in the SEC went the way of the Auburn Tigers, as QB Cam Newton (10-16-86-0 + 28-217-2) had a huge game against the #1 ranked rush defense in the SEC. Auburn as a team had 440 yards rushing with RB Michael Dyer (15-100-0) also having a big game. In the 2nd overtime, State repeated the trick and blocked the game-tieing PAT to upset the Wildcats and win the game. Led by Heisman-Hopeful QB Cam Newton (17-28-335-4 + 14-73-2) the Tigers blew away South Carolina, as they led 28-14 at the half then out-scored the Gamecocks 28-3 in the 2nd half to coast home. Newton was well supported by RB Michael Dyer (14-64-0) and WR Darvin Adams (7-217-2), who set a Championship game record for receiving yards. 04/12/10 - Big 12 Championship - Oklahoma (23) v (20) Nebraska - In the battle of old Big-8 foes, it was #10 ranked Oklahoma that beat #13 ranked Nebraska, but they needed a big comeback to do so. Nebraska took a 17-0 lead in the 2nd quarter but Oklahoma roared back to only trail 20-17 at the half. The Sooners then used great defense to shut out the Cornhuskers in the 2nd half, led by LB Travis Lewis (6 tackles, 2 fumbles recovered, 1 interception) and DL Pryce Macon (5 tackles, 3 sacks), to claim their 7th Big 12 title. The Sooners were led by QB Landry Jones (23-41-342-1) and a defense that forced 4 turnovers and registered 7 sacks. 04/12/10 - ACC Championship - Florida State (33) v (44) Virginia Tech - Virginia Tech claimed it's 3rd ACC title in 4 years with a big win over a rejuvenated Seminoles team. Tech held a slim 21-17 lead at the half but blew the game open in the 3rd quarter and coasted home to the win. Tech were led by QB Tyrod Taylor (18-28-263-3 + 11-24-1) who put in an MVP performance including 2 TD passes in the game-changing 3rd quarter. 17/12/10 - Div-1AA Semi-Final - Villanova (31) @ (41) Eastern Washington - On the red turf in Cheney, the Eagles ended the reign of the current Champions with a big all-around game. The defense, led by LB JC. Sherritt, forced 3 turnovers on 4 of the Wildcats 1st half possessions and Eagles QB Bo Levi Mitchell (27-38-292-4) paced the Offense to a 20-14 lead at the half. The 2nd half followed a similar pattern and the Eagles held on to reach their 1st ever National Championship game. Villanova were led by QB Chris Whitney (12-21-95-0 + 16-22-2) and RB's Angelo Babbaro (8-42-0 + 86 yard kickoff return TD), Matt Szczur (9-36-1). 18/12/10 - New Mexico Bowl - BYU (52) v (24) UTEP - BYU opened the Bowl season with a big win over their former WAC rivals. Led by Freshman QB Jake Heaps (25-34-264-4), the Cougars jumped out to a 31-10 lead at the half and never looked back. 18/12/10 - New Orleans Bowl - Ohio (21) v (48) Troy - The Sun Belt champion Trojans won their 2nd New Orleans Bowl with a big win over the Bobcats. Led by MVP QB Corey Robinson (32-42-387-4), Troy jumped out to a 38-7 lead at the half and coasted home. His favourite target was WR Tebiarus Gill (4-80-3) but he was also supported by RB DuJuan Harris (14-105-1). 23/12/10 - Poinsettia Bowl - Navy (14) v (35) San Diego State - In a very soggy San Diego, the Aztecs finally ended their Bowl win drought with a big win against Navy. Led by QB Ryan Lindley (18-23-276-2) and game MVP RB Ronnie Hillman (28-228-3 + 2-16-1), the Aztecs led 21-14 at the half then used great defense to keep the Midshipmen scoreless in the 2nd half to claim the win, their 1st in a Bowl game since 1969. 24/12/10 - Hawaii Bowl - Hawaii (35) v (62) Tulsa - Both schools were expected to produce a shootout and neither disappointed, with Tulsa making the better defensive plays to take the win. Tulsa dominated the 1st half, leading 27-14 at the half thanks to 6 turnovers by the Warriors. Hawaii fought back in the 2nd half but couldn't make up the deficit. Tulsa were led by QB GJ Kinne (17-31-343-3) and RB Damaris Johnson (5-96-1 + 4-101-1) and LB Curnelius Arnick (10 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 sacks). 26/12/10 - Little Caesars Bowl - Florida International (34) v (32) Toledo - In dramatic fashion, Florida International ended their most successful ever season with their 1st ever Bowl win. The Panthers trailed 32-31 with 1:14 left when QB Wesley Carroll (16-27-140-1) and WR T.Y. Hilton (3-32-1 + 89 yard kick-off return TD) led the team 35 yards to the game-winning FG, a march that included a conversion on 4th-and-17 with a hook-and-lateral play. 28/12/10 - Insight Bowl - Missouri (24) v (27) Iowa - A meeting of 2 near-neighbours ended in a shootout with Iowa using a big defensive play to win the game. Iowa used back-up RB Marcus Coker (33-217-2) to great effect as Iowa took a 17-10 lead at the half but Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert (41-57-434-1) brought the Tigers back into the lead before throwing his 1st interception that was returned 72 yards for a TD with 6:19 left, points that proved the winning margin of victory. 29/12/10 - Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma State (36) v (10) Arizona - Oklahoma State ended the season with an 11-1 record, their 1st 11 win season in school history, with a dominating win in San Antonio. Cowboys QB Brandon Weedon (25-41-240-2) and WR Justin Blackmon (9-117-2 including a 71 yard TD catch) both had big games while the defense held Arizona's star QB Nick Foles (32-50-280-1) in check, forcing him into 3 interceptions of which 1 was returned 61 yards for a TD. 30/12/10 - Pinstripe Bowl - Kansas State (34) v (36) Syracuse - The inaugural Pinstripe Bowl at the new Yankee Stadium turned into a shootout as Syracuse marked their return to the Bowl schedule with their 1st bowl win since 2001. With the backdrop of snow drifts around the touchline, the teams traded big plays, the last of which was a 30 yard TD catch by the Wildcats that pulled them within 2 points of a tie with 1:13 left. But a flag on the TD celebration moved the 'Cats 15 yards from the end-zone and the 2 point play failed. Syracuse recovered the on-side kick and ran out the clock for the win. The MVP was Syracuse RB Delonte Carter (27-196-2) who had a big game, as did QB Ryan Nassib (13-21-239-3). 30/12/10 - Music City Bowl - North Carolina (30) v (27) Tennessee - The Tarheels ended a miserable season with an unlikely win in the Music City Bowl. Trailing 20-17 with 31 seconds left, Tarheels QB TJ Yates (23-39-234-1) drove the 'Heels into FG range but let the clock run out before he could spike the ball to get the FG team on. After review it seemed Yates had successfully spiked the ball with 1 second left and the 'Heels kicked the tieing FG to go to Overtime. With the 2nd chance, North Carolina saw off the Vols in the 2nd overtime to take the win. North Carolina also featured RB Shaun Draughn (23-160-1). 01/01/11 - TicketCity Bowl - Texas Tech (45) v (38) Northwestern - Texas Tech senior QB Taylor Potts ended his career with a big win, but only after his defense held off a big 2nd half comeback from the Wildcats. Potts (43-56-369-4 + 1 TD catch) helped Tech to a 24-6 lead at the half but the Wildcats, led by dual QB's Evan Watkins (10-21-76-1) and Kain Colter (3-6-38-0 + 18-105-2), fought back to within 7 points before a last play heave into the end-zone was intercepted and Tech claimed the win. Tech also featured RB Eric Stephens (14-124-1) and WR Lyle Leong (10-118-2). 01/01/11 - Outback Bowl - Florida (37) v (24) Penn State - Florida coach Urban Meyer's final game as coach ended how he wanted it to, as the Gators cameback from a 17-14 deficit at the half to take the win. Florida tried 3 different QB's, Jordan Reed (8-13-60-0 + 24-61-0), John Brantley (6-13-41-0) and Trey Burton, but the game was decided by DB Ahmad Black, whose 80 yard interception return with 1 minute left sealed the win. 01/01/11 - Rose Bowl - Wisconsin (19) v (21) TCU - #3 ranked TCU proved their unbeaten record was no fluke with a big win against the Badgers. Led by MVP QB Andy Dalton (15-23-219-1 + 9-25-1) and a strong defensive effort, the Frogs controlled the pace of the game and were ahead 21-13 with 2:46 left when Wisconsin scored to pull within 2 points. Stanford QB Andrew Luck (18-23-287-4) had a big game as did RB Stepfan Taylor (13-110-0), but the defense were the real stars, holding the Hokies scoreless after the half with LB Shane Skov (12 tackles, 3 sacks) leading the way. Tech QB Tyrod Taylor (16-31-222-1) had a good game but wasn't helped by a rushing attack that only managed 66 total yards. Tech wore All-Orange helmets for the 1st time. 06/01/11 - GoDaddy.com Bowl - Miami (OH) (35) v (21) Middle Tennessee State - Miami secured the biggest ever single season turnaround with a big 2nd half to win their 1st bowl game since 2003. Under interim coach Lance Guidry and wearing helmets with one-off designs, the Redhawks built on a 14-14 tie at the half and out-scored the Raiders 21-7 in the 2nd half to take the win. The heroes were QB Austin Boucher (22-35-289-2), RB Thomas Merriweather (27-86-2) and a Defense that forced the Raiders into 5 turnovers. MTSU were led by QB Dwight Dasher (18-29-162-0 + 17-61-1) but his 4 interceptions were too much to overcome. 07/01/11 - Div-1AA Final - Eastern Washington (20) v (19) Delaware - Eastern Washington won their 1st ever National Championship in sensational fashion with a huge comeback in the 2nd half. The Eagles were down 19-0 late in the 3rd quarter thanks to big games from Delaware QB Pat Devlin (22-34-220-0) and RB Andrew Pierce (28-142-1). But Eagles QB Bo Levi Mitchell (29-43-302-3) didn't quit and scored 20 straight points in the final 16:48, including the game winner with 2:47 left, to win the game. The Eagles defense had a huge 4th quarter, led by LB JC. Sherritt (18 tackles), holding the Blue Hens to only 48 yards of total offense which paved the way for Mitchell's heroics (9, 1 Disc, ESPN 2 - Neal/Ware, PAL)
10/01/11 - BCS Title Game - Auburn (22) v (19) Oregon - Auburn claimed their 1st National Championship since 1954 with a nail-biting win against the Ducks. Auburn was tied 19-19 with 2:27 left in the game when QB Cam Newton (20-34-265-2 + 22-46-0) and RB Michael Dyer (22-142-0) marched the Tigers into FG range where kicker Wes Byrum booted the game winning 19 yard FG on the final play. Oregon were led by QB Darron Thomas (27-40-363-2) and RB LaMichael James (13-44-0) but struggled to execute their usual gameplan against a strong Tigers defense.
