07/09/91 - BYU (23) v (27) UCLA - A battle between 2 of the top QB's in the NCAA went the way of the Bruins as they used a late Defensive stop to take the win. UCLA dominated the 1st half, led by QB Tommy Maddox (16-24-263-2), and went in at the half with a 20-10 lead. BYU regrouped, led by QB Ty Detmer (29-46-377-2), and scored 13 unanswered points to take the lead before UCLA countered and re-took the lead in the 4th quarter that they defended to the end. Detmer had a big game but 1 of his 2 interceptions came in the Bruins end-zone and his final pass into the end-zone was broken up. BYU also featured RB Mark Atuaia (7-36-0), WR's Micah Matsuzaki (7-64-0) and Bryce Doman (3-71-1) and LB Rocky Biegel (10 tackles, 1 sack). 14/09/91 - Pacific (34) @ (55) San Diego State - San Diego State Freshman RB Marshall Faulk came off the bench in the 1st quarter to replace an ailing TC Wright and ripped of 386 yards and 7 TD's on 37 attempts (8, 2 Discs, Prime - Hamilton/Halda/Cesmat, PAL)

14/09/91 - LSU (7) @ (45) Texas A&M - The Aggies opened their season with a resounding win against a depleted Tiger team. The stars were freshman RB Greg Hill, who rushed for an NCAA Freshman debut record 212 yards, and Freshman QB Jeff Granger, who replaced injured starter Bucky Richardson. Notre Dame (14) @ (24) Michigan
- The latest battle between the old rivals was dominated by the rushing attack of the Wolverines, led by RB Ricky Powers (37-164). He was helped on offense by QB Elvis Grbac and WR Desmond Howard, who started his Heisman bid with a spectacular TD catch on 4th and 1 (8, 1 hour 30 minute hi-lites, Sportschannel - Henderson/Hornung, PAL)

14/09/91 - Baylor (16) @ (14) Colorado - Baylor dramatically ended #11 ranked Colorado's 11 game win streak with a 35 yard FG with 51 seconds left in the game. The FG came after Baylor DL Santana Dotson blocked a game-clinching FG by Colorado with 3 minutes left. The Buffaloes led 7-3 at the half under the leadership of QB Darian Hagan (11-19-154-1 + 16-30-0) but the Bears scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter to take the lead with QB JJ.Joe (12-19-233-1 + 13-68-0) and WR Melvin Bonner scoring on a 74 yard TD pass. The Buffaloes re-took the lead on a 10 yard TD run in the 4th quarter before the FG dramatics in the final minutes settled the game. 14/09/91 - Oregon (28) @ (13) Texas Tech - Oregon continued their winning start to the season with an out-of-conference win against the Red Raiders. Led by Freshman QB Danny O'Neill (19-35-292-4) and a staunch Defense, the Ducks rolled up 456 yards of total Offense and restricted the Red Raiders to only 340 yards. After a tight 1st half that Oregon led 14-10, Texas Tech closed the gap to 14-13 before the Ducks reeled off 14 unanswered points to take the win. Oregon also featured RB Sean Burwell, TE Jeff Thomason (1 TD catch) and DB Eric Castle (1 Interception). Texas Tech featured QB Jamie Gill (17-27-168-?), RB Anthony Lynn (94 yards rushing), WR's Anthony Stinett (8-98-?) and Lloyd Hill and DB Tracy Saul. 21/09/91 - Texas A&M (34) @ (35) Tulsa - Tulsa scored a huge upset over the #15 ranked Aggies, as they gashed the vaunted A&M defense, featuring future #1 draft pick LB Quentin Coryatt. The hero for Tulsa was RB Chris Hughley (29-231-3) who played the game of his life to upset the Aggies. Tulsa also featured QB TJ Rubley and it was his 63 yard TD pass with 2:47 left that gave the Golden Hurricanes the lead. 21/09/91 - Houston (10) @ (51) Illinois - Illinois stunned #21 Houston in a shootout in Champaign. Illinois QB Jason Verduzco (16-22-341-3) took advantage of a blitzing defense to put the Illini in 21-3 at the half and 2 quick TD's in the 3rd quarter effectively ended the game. Houston QB David Klingler (30-58-332-1) was under pressure all game and threw 4 interceptions in the 2nd half trying to lead the comeback. Illinois also featured RB Clinton Lynch (14-107-1). 28/09/91 - Colorado (21) @ (28) Stanford - Un-ranked Stanford upset #17 ranked Colorado in Palo Alto, using a big all-around game to get the job done. Stanford RB Tommy Vardell (29-114-3 + 4-94-0) had a big game, pacing the Offense to 485 yards of total Offense, while the Defense held the Buffs to only 270 yards. Stanford held a 14-7 lead at the half and finished of Colorado with 2 more TD's in the 4th quarter to take the win. 28/09/91 - Florida State (51) @ (31) Michigan - #1 ranked Florida State dominated #3 ranked Michigan, using a big play offense, special teams and a stifling defense to win in Ann Arbor. The Seminoles scored on a fake FG, 2 interceptions returned for TD's and 3 TD passes to blow away the Wolverines. Florida State held a 31-23 lead at the half and, despite a brief fightback from Michigan, pulled away late for the win. The Seminoles were led by QB Casey Weldon (16-28-268-3), RB Amp Lee (20-122-2), LB Marvin Jones and DB Terrell Buckley (40 yard INT return TD). 05/10/91 - Clemson (12) @ (27) Georgia - In a big upset on a Saturday night in Athens, Georgia ended #6 ranked Clemson's perfect start to the season. Both team's Defense's were on top in the 1st half with Georgia holding a 10-3 lead at the break. But in the 2nd half, the Bulldogs adjusted the better and used their passing game to take control. Clemson also went to the passing game but 5 turnovers and untimely penalties doomed any chance of a comeback win and the Bulldogs pulled away in the 4th quarter to take the win. Georgia featured QB's Greg Talley (who played only the first 2 drives) and Freshman Eric Zeier (15-33-251-2) who played the rest of the game, RB's Garrison Hearst (1 TD run) and Larry Ware, WR's Andre Hastings and Arthur Marshall, LB Dwayne Simmons (13 tackles, 2 pass break-ups and 1 sack) and DB Chuck Carswell (1 INT). - Rice upset #8 ranked Baylor behind a strong running game and the leg of kicker Darrell Richardson, whose 33 yard FG with 3 minutes left sealed the win. - In the final SWC meeting between the 2 rivals, Arkansas used a late 4th down defensive stand and a missed PAT from Texas to beat the Longhorns. - Texas Tech paid the price for settling for FG's early in the game as a 4th quarter rally fell short. QB Robert Hall led the team into position to tie the game but a sure TD was dropped in the end-zone in the final moments. 02/11/91 - USC (30) @ (52) California - In a record-breaking win at Memorial Stadium, #10 ranked California humiliated USC for their 1st win the series since 1985. USC conceded their most points ever while the Bears also racked up 601 yards of total Offense, the 2nd most ever allowed by the Trojans, including 389 yards rushing. California jumped on USC early, running out to a 35-7 lead at the half, before coasting home in the 2nd half. 09/11/91 - Arkansas (21) @ (38) Texas Tech - In their final match-up as members of the SWC, Texas Tech finally recorded a home win against the Razorbacks, their 1st since 1966. Tech used a balanced run-pass attack to post a 24-14 lead at the half, then used a strong Defensive performance to see out the win. Tech were led by QB Robert Hall (17-27-219-1 + 12-56-1), RB Byron Morris and WR Llyod Hill on Offense and by DL Shawn Jackson, LB Matt Wingo and DB Tracy Saul on Defence. 09/11/91 - Texas (13) @ (24) Houston - In a very physical game, Houston ended the Longhorns Cotton Bowl hopes with a comeback win. Injured Houston QB David Klingler (17-31-230-1) led the Cougars to 10 points in the final 4:23 of the 4th quarter despite being barely able to walk due to a pulled groin muscle. Texas QB Peter Gardere fared no better, leaving the game early after a big hit, but returning in the 3rd quarter to rally the Longhorns. In the meantime, Texas turned to Freshman back-ups Chad Lucas and Jimmy Saxton. Texas also lost RB Butch Hadnot (17-56-0) to injury in the 1st half. 16/11/91 - Miami (17) @ (16) Florida State - #2 ranked Miami ended #1 ranked Florida State's chances of a National Championship with a comeback win in Tallahassee. Both teams were evenly matched but Florida State used strong 2nd and 3rd quarters to give themselves a 16-7 lead early in the 4th quarter. Miami came roaring back and scored 10 unanswered points to take a 17-16 lead. The Seminoles had 1 last chance to win the game with a 34 yard FG with 29 seconds left but the kick went "Wide Right" and the Hurricanes claimed the win. Miami were led by QB Gino Torreta (14-27-145-0), RB Stephen McGuire (22-142-1), DL Rusty Medearis (2 sacks) and LB's Darrin Smith, Jessie Armstead and Michael Barrow. 16/11/91 - BYU (52) @ (52) San Diego State - The 2 opposing QB's battled for the win, with the winner taking the WAC championship title and a place in the Holiday Bowl. BYU QB Ty Detmer (31-54-599-6) and San Diego State QB Dan Lowery (26-39-568-5) battled for 4 hours but the game ended in a tie, the highest scoring tie-game in NCAA history. 23/11/91 - Ohio State (3) @ (31) Michigan - #5 ranked Michigan clinched the Big 10 title with a big win over their big rivals, #21 ranked Ohio State. The star of the show was Michigan WR Desmond Howard (213 all-purpose yards) who had a huge game and effectively won the Heisman Trophy with a Michigan record 93 yard punt return for a TD in the 2nd quarter. Michigan also featured QB Elvis Grbac, OL Greg Skrepenak and LB Erick Anderson. Washington State (21) @ (56) Washington
- The Huskies dominated the Cougars to complete an unbeaten season. Washington QB Billy Joe Hobert (16-26-236-3) had a big game as did the defense, led by future #1 NFL draft pick Steve Emtman. 23/11/91 - California (21) @ (38) Stanford - #21 ranked Stanford continued their win streak against #6 ranked Cal with a big offensive display. The star was RB Tommy Vardell (39-182-3) who wore-out the Bears defense in the 2nd half and went over 1000 yards for the season in the process. He was helped on Offense by QB Steve Stenstrom (2 TD passes) and RB Glyn Milburn, and on Defense by LB's Coy Gibbs and Ron George + DB Darrien Gordon. Cal gave Stanford a helping hand in the win with 3 missed FG's and 7 personal fouls. 23/11/91 - Houston (45) @ (49) TCU - In a shootout in Dallas, the Frogs ended Houston's chances of a winning season while securing their first winning season in 7 years with a big win at a windy Amon Carter Stadium. Momentum swung with the direction of the wind in the game with the Frogs dominating the 1st and 3rd quarters and the Cougars dominating the 2nd and 4th quarters. Houston led 35-21 at the half, but TCU scored 21 unanswered points to re-take the lead early in the 4th quarter. The Cougars rallied with 10 points of the their own before one final drive from the Frogs ended in a controversial game-winning TD with 28 seconds left. The score shouldn't have counted as the WR left the field of play before running back into the end-zone to out-leap the defender for the ball and the TD. The play stood though and the Frogs secured the win with a late interception. TCU featured QB Matt Vogler (20-39-233-3), RB Curtis Modkins (2 TD runs), WR Stephen Shipley (2 TD catches), TE Kelly Blackwell (2 TD catches), DL Roosevelt Collins and DB Tony Rand. Texas Tech (52) @ (46) Houston - In Houston QB David Klingler's last game, he threw for 533 yards and 5 TD's but was beat up by a tough Tech defense and suffered from a dead left arm for most of the game. Texas Tech WR Rodney Blackshear had a career day as he amassed 251 yard receiving, inc TD's of 90 and 95 yards (9, 2 Discs, Raycom - Barnett/Rowe, PAL)

28/12/91 - Blockbuster Bowl -
Alabama (30) v (25) Colorado
- Alabama faced off against the reigning champions with a 10-1 record to defend. The Tide fought back from a 12-10 deficit on the arm of QB Jay Barker (12-16-154-3) who threw 3 TD passes in the 2nd half. Colorado had a chance to win the game in the final minute but the Tide defense held on 4th down to deny the Buffaloes. Colorado finished with -11 yards rushing. Alabama also featured RB Siran Stacy (26-111-0 in his final game), FB Kevin Turner and WR David Palmer (52 yard punt return TD). 01/01/92 - Peach Bowl -
North Carolina State (37) v (34) East Carolina
- The Pirates, behind the play of senior QB Jeff Blake (31-51-378-4), rallied from a 34-17 4th quarter deficit to take the lead in the last 2 minutes. NC State had a chance at a tie on the last play but a 49 yard FG attempt was wide. East Carolina ended the season 11-1 (8, 2 Discs, ESPN - Franklin/Gottfried/Karsten/Punch, PAL)

01/01/92 - Orange Bowl -
Miami (Fl) (22) v (0) Nebraska
- Miami gave Nebraska their first shut-out in 221 games as they dominated the Huskers and claimed a share of the National Championship. The MVP was Miami RB Larry Jones (30-144-1) who was helped by Heisman Trophy winning QB Gino Torretta (19-41-257-1). The real stars of the show were the Miami Defense that forced 2 interceptions and 5 sacks. The Defense was led by DE Rusty Medearis and LB's Darrin Smith and Jesse Armstead (7, 50 minute hi-lites, 1 Disc, NBC - Enberg/Walsh, PAL)

01/01/92 - Rose Bowl -
Washington (34) v (14) Michigan
- #2 ranked Washington completed their unbeaten season with a dominating win against the #4 ranked Wolverines. The top-ranked Huskie defense, led by future #1 Draft pick DT Steve Emtman, shut-down Michigan and held them to 72 yards of total Offense. Washington QB Billy Joe Hobert (18-34-192-2) and WR Mario Bailey (6-126-1) had big games in leading the Huskie Offense. 11/01/92 - Hula Bowl -
East (27) v (20) West - The annual end-of-season All Star game for Seniors went down to the last minute as Fresno State QB Mark Barsotti threw a 77 yard TD pass to Brian Treggs to win the game. The East team was coached by Steve Spurrier and the West team by LaVell Edwards. Other players featured were Houston QB David Klingler, Florida State QB Casey Weldon, Northeastern RB Derrick Moore, Notre Dame TE Derek Brown and Indiana RB Vaughn Dunbar (7, 50 minute Hi-Lites, 1 Disc, NBC - Jones/Namath/Trumpy, PAL)
