08/09/84 - Boston College (38) @ (31) Alabama - Boston College upset the #9 ranked Tide after trailing by 17 points in the 4th quarter. The Eagles were led by QB Doug Flutie (19-38-254-2) (8, 2 Discs, ABC - Jackson/Broyles/Brant, NTSC)

08/09/84 - Miami (14) @ (22) Michigan - Michigan, led by QB Jim Harbaugh in his 1st career start, upset the #1 ranked Hurricanes as they forced Miami QB Bernie Kosar into 6 interceptions (7, 2 Discs, KATZ - ?, NTSC)

15/09/84 - Navy (33) @ (30) North Carolina - In the season opener for both teams, Navy upset the favoured Tarheels on a hot day in Chapel Hill. The game was billed as a battle between 2 Heisman Trophy contenders, North Carolina RB Ethan Horton and Navy RB Napoleon McCallum, but the game was settled by a pre-season 6th string QB's heroics with 2 minutes remaining. Horton (15-98-1) paced the Tarheels to a 21-3 lead in the 1st half but Navy used a great 2nd half defensive effort to keep within touching distance going into the 4th quarter. Both teams traded TD's until Navy QB Bill Byrne (12-28-157-3) threw a 60 yard TD pass with 2:33 remaining to give Navy the lead for good. 15/09/84 - SMU (41) @ (7) Lousiville - SMU continued their form of 1983 with a big season-opening win in the old Cardinal stadium. SMU jumped out to a 27-7 lead at the half, thanks to RB Reggie Dupard (13-143-2) and a record-setting 100 yard interception return for a TD by DB Reggie Phillips, and coasted home in the 2nd half. The SMU defense, led by DL Jerry Ball and Joe Phillips, forced Louisville QB Ed Rubbert (324 yards + 1 TD) into 3 interceptions when the Cardinals were inside the SMU 10 yard line, and 4 interceptions in total. Louisville also featured WR Ernest Givins (85 yard TD catch). SMU debuted QB Don King and also featured WR Ron Morris (8, 2 Discs, KTXA-21 - Gallop/Samples, NTSC)

13/10/84 - Wyoming (38) @ (41) BYU - On homecoming weekend, the underdog Cowboys put up a fight, running their Wishbone offense very successfully and nearly upset the undefeated Cougars. It took a big game from BYU QB Robbie Bosco (29-44-384-5) and a last minute TD pass to finally seal the win. Wyoming featured TE Jay Novacek (8, 2 Discs, KBYU - Monsen/Young, NTSC)

20/10/84 - BYU (30) @ (25) Air Force - In the snow at Colorado Springs, #4 ranked BYU moved to 7-0 on the season with a tight win over a feisty Air Force team. The Falcons Wish-Bone attack, led by QB Bart Weiss (6-10-155-1 + 17-40-1) and RB's Pat Evans (20-105-0) and Jody Simmons (8-37-1), + a strong showing from the Defense (1 safety + 3 turnovers), kept Air Force in touch throughout the game but a late FG put the Cougars just far enough in front to take the win. BYU were led by QB Robbie Bosco (28-41-484-4) who had a big game after a shaky start, RB Lakei Heimuli (18-65-0), WR's David Mills (10-225-1) and Glen Kozlowski (6-65-1) + LB Kurt Gouveia (8, Loud Audio + missing last 10 seconds of the 1st half but no scoring, 2 Discs, ABC - McPherrin/Swann, NTSC)

20/10/84 - Washington State  (49) @ (42) Stanford - Washington State completed their greatest ever comeback as they won the game despite a 29 pt deficit in the 3rd Quarter. The Cougars featured QB Mark Rypien and RB Reuben Mayes (216 yards) (8, 2 Discs, Superchannel - Rizzs/Johns, PAL)

27/10/84 - Washington State (50) @ (41) Oregon - On a record-setting day in Eugene, the visiting Cougars held off the Ducks in a shootout. The Cougars started fast and ran out to a 21-6 lead after the 1st quarter and a 30-20 lead at the half. The Ducks played better defense in the 2nd half but couldn't close the gap and the Cougars ran out easy winners. Washington State were led by a big game from RB Reuben Mayes (39-357-3) who set the NCAA record for single game rushing yards. The Cougars also featured QB Mark Rypien (1 TD run) and WR Michael James. Oregon featured Sophomore QB Chris Miller, RB Tony Cherry (2 TD runs) and WR Lew Barnes (36 yard TD catch) (7, Downloaded from the internet - Loud Audio + Slight Jitter, 1 Disc, Superchannel - Rizzs/Johns, NTSC)

03/11/84 - Alcorn State (42) v (28) Mississippi Valley State - Both teams entered the contest unbeaten and it was the Braves that left with their record intact after a shootout in Jackson, Mississippi. Alcorn State dominated the 1st half and led 28-7 at the break. But the Delta Devils scored 21 unanswered points in the 2nd half to pull level before the Braves took the win with 2 TD's in the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter, with the game-clincher coming on a 29 yard Interception return TD with 16 seconds left. The Braves were led by QB Richard Myles (16-30-306-3), RB Perry Qualls (37-211-4) and a Defense that forced 4 interceptions, led by DB Issaic Holt. Mississippi Valley State were led by QB Willie Totten (26-52-383-2) and WR Jerry Rice (8-134-1) (7, Picture fuzzy on wide shots and audio gets out of sync with the video as the game progresses, 4 Discs, WLBT - McAlilly/Gordon, PAL)

03/11/84 - Texas (13) @ (10) Texas Tech - #2 ranked Texas survived a tight defensive game in Lubbock, using 2 late FG's to take the win. Texas Tech, led by LB's Brad Hastings and Calvin Riggs and 1st year Defensive Co-ordinator Spike Dykes, forced Texas into 6 turnovers. Texas Tech held a 10-0 lead at the half but Texas responded in the 2nd half with 13 unanswered points including 2 FG's in the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. The game-winning 35 yard FG came with 3 seconds left. Texas featured QB Todd Dodge (12-25-190-1 + 13-36-0), RB's Terry Orr (13-48-0) and Kevin Nelson (8-20-0), WR Bill Boy Bryant (5-68-1), DL Tony Derrate and LB Ty Allert. 10/11/84 - Houston (29) @ (15) Texas - On a windy day in Austin, Houston upset #3 ranked Texas with a great defensive effort. The Cougars led 17-7 at the half with big plays from the Offense, including a 79 yard TD pass from QB Gerald Landry to WR Anthony Ketchum, and then crushed a small Longhorn revival in the 2nd half with a 63 yard interception return for a TD by DB DeWayne Bowden to ice the game. The Cougars Defense forced Texas QB Todd Dodge into a miserable game, holding him without a completion in the 1st half as he finished the game 2-16-23-0 and 5 interceptions. The Defense also recovered 4 fumbles. Houston also featured RB's Michael Simmons and Sloan Hood, DL Simon Fletcher and LB Robert Harper. Texas alos featured WR Brent Duhon, DL Tony DeGrate, LB Ty Allert and DB Jerry Gray (8, 1 Disc, Raycom - Harmon/Wilkinson, NTSC)

10/11/84 - Maryland (42) @ (40) Miami - In one of the greatest games ever, Maryland cameback from a 31-0 half-time deficit to upset the Hurricanes. Maryland back-up QB Frank Reich turned around the Terrapins with 21 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters to shock Miami and QB Bernie Kosar (8, 2 Discs, USA Network - ?, NTSC)

17/11/84 - South Carolina (21) @ (38) Navy - In the final home game of the season for the Middies, Navy upset #2 South Carolina in Annapolis. Both teams made mistakes in the 1st half, combining for 5 turnovers, and Navy held a slim 14-7 lead at the half. The 3rd quarter belonged to Navy as they scored 17 unanaswered points and the Defense, led by DL Eric Rutherford (11 tackles, 4 sacks, blocked FG, 1 caused fumble), kept forcing turnovers to keep the Gamecocks at bay and even a 4th quarter South Carolina rally proved too late to save the game. South Carolina featured WR Ira Hillary and Navy featured QB Bob Misch, WR Chris Weiler and RB Rich Clouse but were missing RB Napoleon McCallum due to a season-ending injury (7, Missing opening kick-off + 1st play - Game has network audio issues for 1st quarter + jitter throughout the game, 2 Discs, HTS - Miller/White/Davis, NTSC)

23/11/84 - Boston College (47) @ (45) Miami - In one of the greatest games ever played, Boston College QB Doug Flutie (472 yards passing) launched a last play 48 yard "Hail mary" TD pass to beat the reigning National Champions. The 'Canes QB Bernie Kosar (447 yards passing) had engineered a last minute drive that had taken the lead with 28 seconds left before Flutie launched the pass that won him the Heisman (8, 2 Discs, CBS - Musberger/Parseghian/Haden, NTSC)

24/11/84 - Div-1AA Playoff - Mississippi Valley State (19) @ (66) Louisiana Tech - Louisiana Tech advanced to the next round of the playoffs with a big upset win over the high scoring Delta Devils. Led by QB Kyle Gandy (262 yards + 3 TD's), RB David Green (24-179-3) and a Defense that forced 8 turnovers, the Bulldogs overwhelmed the Delta Devils. MVSU QB Willie Totten (485 yards passing) had a big game but threw 6 interceptions. His favourite target was WR Jerry Rice (9-155-1). The game proved to be his final game at MVSU. Coverage is 26 minutes of hi-lites comprised of 6 minutes of silent sideline footage, 10 minutes of high angle sideline footage, 8 minutes of different sideline footage and 2 minutes of Louisiana TV8 news report (8, 1 Disc, NTSC)

21/12/84 - Holiday Bowl - Michigan (17) v (24) BYU - Undefeated and #1 ranked BYU played an under-strength Michigan team knowing a win would secure the National Championship. The Cougars were dealt an early blow when starting QB Robbie Bosco (30-42-343-2) had to leave the game briefly with a twisted knee and sprained ankle but he returned to lead a 4th quarter comeback, sealed with a TD pass with 1:23 left. The win secured the #1 ranking and the Championship (8, BYU radio audio, 2 Discs, KBYU - Monsen/Young, NTSC)

26/12/84 - Freedom Bowl - Iowa (55) v (17) Texas - In the inaugural Freedom Bowl, Iowa dominated Texas with a big 2nd half to end the season on a high. Iowa were led by QB Chuck Long (29-39-461-6) and he used 4 TD passes to post a 31 point 3rd quarter to blow open a close game, while the Defense, featuring DB Mike Stoops, held the Longhorns scoreless in the 2nd half to take the win. Long had help from RB Owen Gill (17-61-0) and WR's Robert Smith (4-115-1) and Bill Happel (8-104-1). Texas were led on Offense by QB Todd Dodge (16-32-180-2), RB Terry Orr (12-67-0) and WR Bill Boy Bryant (3-50-1), and on Defense by DL Tony Degrate, LB Ty Allert and DB Jerry Gray (8, Player-to-Recorder copy, Washed out colour for the 1st Quarter - the rest of the game is OK, 2 Discs, TCS-Metrosports - Nover/Snow, NTSC)
