Champions Classic - Michigan State (75) @ (69) Duke - At an empty Cameron Indoor Arena, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, #8 ranked Michigan State beat #6 ranked Duke to record their first ever win over the Blue Devils in Durham. After a fast start by Duke, Michigan State settled into the game and took a 37-33 lead in at half-time. The Spartans kept their noses in front the rest of the way, despite a late rally from Duke, and held on for the big win. Michigan State featured Rocket Watts (20 points), Julius Marble (12 points) and Aaron Henry (14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks). Jimmy V Classic - West Virginia (82) v (87) Gonzaga - #1 ranked Gonzaga overcame a strong 1st half performance from #11 ranked West Virginia, rallying in the 2nd half in Indianapolis to win and stay unbeaten on the season (3-0). The Mountaineers defense stymied the Bulldogs early, and Gonzaga's chances of turning the game around took a hit when star Jalen Suggs left the game with a leg injury. West Virginia went in at the break with a 39-34 lead but the 2nd half belonged to the Zags, who were buoyed by the return of Suggs, and they hit the front for good with 9:46 to play and held on for the win. Regular Season - Texas Tech Red Raiders (79) @ (77) Texas Longhorns - #15 ranked Texas Tech used a big 2nd half comeback and a dramatic basket in the final seconds to beat #4 ranked Texas in Austin. Texas dominated the 1st half and took a 48-38 lead in at the break, but the Red Raiders turned up the heat Defensively in the 2nd half to pull themselves back in the game. With the game tied at 77-77 with 3 seconds left, Tech's Mac McClung (22 points, 2 assists) hit a long 2-pointer to take the lead and when the Longhorns last desperation effort fell short, the Red Raiders celebrated the win. But in the 2nd half, Gonzaga turned up the heat on both ends of the court and used a 15-4 run to pull away and coast home to the win, their 40th straight win against the Waves. The Crimson Tide set a Southeastern Conference record by making 23 shots from beyond the arc, running out to a 60-32 lead at the half, before cruising home in the 2nd half. Regular Season - Vanderbilt Commodores (71) @ (78) Florida Gators - Florida continued Vanderbilt's losing streak, holding off a late Commodores run to condemn Vanderbilt to their 6th straight loss. Florida led by 22 points with 9:52 remaining in the second half, but Vanderbilt fought back to 73-69 with 37 seconds left and a comeback seemed on the cards. But the Gators found some Defense and held Vanderbilt scoreless the rest of the way to close out the game. The Longhorns turned around a 34-41 deficit at the half with a 13-4 run at the start of the 2nd half to go up by 2 points. But Baylor re-grouped and dominated the rest of the way, finishing off Texas with late 3-pointers that stopped the Longhorns taking the upset win. It was the first match-up since 1960 where neither team was ranked. Duke fought back from a 12 point deficit early in the 2nd half to tie the game with just under 5 minutes left. But North Carolina kept their noses in front the rest of the way, and held off a late Duke charge to win the game. All 5 of the North Carolina starters scored in double figures. North Carolina were led by a career game from Caleb Love (25 points, 7 assists) and also featured Armando Bacot (16 points, 6 rebounds) and Garrison Brooks (12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists). Regular Season - Kansas Jayhawks (72) @ (75) Texas Longhorns - On Senior night in Austin, #14 ranked Texas rallied in the 2nd half to beat #17 ranked Kansas in Overtime, ending the Jayhawks 5-game win streak. Kansas led 43-32 at the half, but Texas fought back in the 2nd half to take the lead. Kansas kept close to the Longhorns though, and forced Overtime with a last play shot before Texas again took control in Overtime and saw out the game for the win. Regular Season - Ohio State Buckeyes (67) @ (71) Michigan State Spartans - Unranked Michigan State boosted their chances of making the NCAA Tournament with a big win over #4 ranked Ohio State. The Spartans trailed 38-33 at half-time and had to rally from a 9-point deficit in the 2nd half to upset the Buckeyes. Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann didn't make it to the end of the game. He was ejected for arguing with the officials on a no-call with 1.4 seconds left. Louisville looked in control in the 2nd half with a 40-28 lead, but Duke fought back to take the game to Overtime. The Cardinals finished the job in Overtime, though, scoring the first 5 points and holding off Duke the rest of the way. The win gave Tarheels coach Roy Williams his 900th career win, just the 4th Division 1 coach to do so. In a game of 2 halves, Florida State controlled the 1st half, going in at the break with a 41-29 lead, but the Tarheels controlled the 2nd half, edging ahead with 11 minutes to play, then saw out the game at the free-throw line. Regular Season - Baylor Bears (58) @ (71) Kansas Jayhawks - #17 ranked Kansas, sporting their red uniforms at home, upset #2 ranked Baylor and inflicted on them their first loss of the season. The Bears were playing in only their 2nd game in 3.5 weeks, and looked rusty early on, but recovered to battle the Jayhawks throughout the game. Kansas was clinging to a 57-52 lead with 5 minutes to go when they went on a 10-2 run over the next 3.5 minutes that gave them just enough cushion to stay ahead and take the win. Most of the points in those 3.5 minutes came from the foul line. But the 2nd half was a different story as Michigan went on a 25-4 run that spanned much of the 2nd half to squash any chance of a Michigan State upset. Oklahoma fought back to take the lead with 8 minutes to go, but Texas re-took the lead for good 2 minutes later before seeing out the game at the free-throw line. The loss meant the Blue Devils finished without a winning record for the fist time since 1994/95. The Tarheels never trailed in the game and used an early 22-4 run to take a 26-6 lead in the 1st half and they coasted home the rest of the way. North Carolina had 3 players score over 18 points. WCC Championship - BYU Cougars (78) v (88) Gonzaga Bulldogs - #1 ranked Gonzaga won their 8th WCC title in 9 years with a come-from-behind win against unranked BYU. The high-scoring Zags struggled in the 1st half against the Cougars, and went in at the break down 53-41. But All-American Corey Kispert (17 points, 5 rebounds) rallied the team with 9 points in the opening minutes of the 2nd half to get close to BYU, then the Zags Jalen Suggs (23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) finished off the Cougars late with his own 3-pointers to give the Bulldogs the cushion that they defended to the end. Big 12 Championship Semi-Final - Oklahoma State Cowboys (83) v (74) Baylor Bears - In a big upset, #12 ranked Oklahoma State beat #2 ranked Baylor to advance to the Big-12 Championship game. The Cowboys used a strong Defensive effort to keep the Bears in check in the 1st half, and went in at the half with a 35-30 lead. The Bears fought back in the 2nd half, and led by 8 with just under 8 minutes left to play. But the Cowboys suddenly found their Offensive rhythm again and ended the game on a 31-14 run, taking the lead for good on a layup and a free throw with 2:09 to go. Oklahoma State then saw out the game at the free-throw line to book their place in the Final.
