Regular Season - Ohio State Buckeyes (93) @ (75) Florida Gators - In a battle between 2 teams in the Top 10, it was the #4 ranked Buckeyes that came away with the road win over the #9 ranked Gators. Led by star Freshman Jared Sullinger (26 points, 10 rebounds) the Buckeyes matched the Gators in the 1st half before pulling away in the 2nd half with a 30 to 15 run in the final 10 minutes to take the win. The Gators were led by Kenny Boynton (21 points) and Erving Walker (15 points). Maui Invitiational Semi-Final - Michigan State Spartans (67) v (70) Connecticut Huskies - 2 evenly matched teams went toe-to-toe for a place in the Final, and it was the Huskies that triumphed over the #2 ranked Spartans. The teams were tied 34-34 at the half with each team's big players having good games ; Michigan State's Draymond Green (22 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists) and UConn's Kemba Walker (30 points, 4 assists). The Huskies finally got a small lead late in the game and used strong defense, led by Alex Oriakhi (15 points, 17 rebounds), to close out the game and get the win (10, 1 Disc, ESPN - McDonough/Bilas/Raftery, PAL)
Maui Invitiational Semi-Final - Kentucky Wildcats (74) v (67) Washington Huskies - #8 ranked Kentucky booked their place in the Final with a sloppy win over #13 ranked Washington. Both teams suffered from poor shooting, with Kentucky shooting 39 percent and Washington 38 percent but the Wildcats had Brandon Knight (24 points) and Terrence Jones (16 points, 17 rebounds) and they pulled the Wildcats through. The Huskies fans really got on Jones as he jilted the Huskies during recruiting to join the Wildcats. Maui Invitiational Final - Connecticut Huskies (84) v (67) Kentucky Wildcats - UConn won their 2nd Maui Invitational with a big win over #9 ranked Kentucky. Led by star players Kemba Walker (29 points, 6 assists) and Alex Oriakhi (18 points, 11 rebounds), the Huskies led 50-29 at the half and coasted home in the 2nd half to the win. Kentucky were led by Terrence Jones (24 points) but he had no support from his team-mates as they only made 6 of 26 shots (10, 1 Disc, ESPN - McDonough/Bilas/Raftery, PAL)
CBE Classic Final - Duke Blue Devils (82) v (68) Kansas State Wildcats - #1 ranked Duke showed why they are rated the best in the country with a dominating win against #4 ranked Kansas State. Led by star Freshman Kyrie Irving (17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists) and Kyle Singler (11 points), Duke ran out to a 47-39 lead at the half then used great defense to keep the lead and coast home. Kansas State star Jacob Pullen (4 points, 3 rebounds) was kept in check. The win gave Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski his 800th win at the school (10, 1 Disc, ESPN - O'Brien/Vitale, PAL)
Regular Season - Morgan State Bears (55) v (97) Syracuse Orangemen - #5 ranked Syracuse enjoyed a big night at the Carrier Dome, with 13 players getting on the scoreboard. The Otange led 44-29 at the half and coasted home. Syracuse had a season high 34 assists and 12 three pointers and threw down a number of dunks against the Bears with Rick Jackson (18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists), James Southerland (18 points) and Dion Waiters (5 points, 8 assists) leading the way. Regular Season - Duke Blue Devils (78) @ (93) St.Johns Red Storm - St.Johns sprang the upset on #3 ranked Duke with a dominating win at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm jumped on Duke early and led 46-25 at the half before coasting home in the 2nd half to the win. The Red Storm were led by Dwight Hardy (26 points), Justin Brownlee (20 points, 9 rebounds) and Paris Horne (15 points, 6 assists). Regular Season - St.Mary's Gaels (66) @ (74) San Diego Toreros - A West Coast Conference clash between the top and bottom teams didn't go to form as San Diego posted a big upset over #23 ranked St.Mary's. The Gaels led 35-24 early in the 2nd half but the Toreros played "Lights Out", especially from 3 point range, to comeback and win the game. Led by Matt Dorr (17 points), Chris Manresa (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Darian Norris (15 points) San Diego went on a 19-5 run to end the game, shooting 8 of 12 from 3 point range. Mountain West Tournament Semi-Final - New Mexico Lobos (76) v (87) BYU Cougars - On an historic night in Las Vegas, BYU finally beat the Lobos at the 3rd attempt in 2011 to book a place in the Mountain West Tournament Final. The star of the show was BYU's senior guard Jimmer Fredette who scored 52 points (including 7 three pointers) as the Cougars took a 47-42 lead in at the half, a lead which they never lost the rest of the way. Fredette's 52 points broke Danny Ainge's 30 year old season scoring record and set BYU and Mountain West Tournament single game records. BYU also featured Jackson Emery (14 points, 5 assists) and Kyle Collinsworth (11 points). Sun Belt Conference Championship - North Texas Mean Green (63) v (64) Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans - The Trojans claimed their 1st conference title since 1990, and the associated guaranteed NCAA tournament berth, but needed a game-winning 3 pointer with 1.5 seconds left to do it. UALR clawed back a 7 point deficit in the final 2 minutes to set up Solomon Bozeman (20 points) to hit a 3 pointer after a time-out to win the game. UALR also featured Gus Leeper (10 points) and Marlon Louzeiro (4 points, 7 rebounds). Big East Championship Semi-Final - Connecticut Huskies (76) v (71) Syracuse Orangemen - UConn advanced to the Big East Championship game with a hard-fought Overtime win over #4 seed Syracuse. The Huskies Kemba Walker (33 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists) had a huge game but he needed all of his 33 points as the Orangemen scored 2 clutch 3 pointers in the final 21 seconds to force overtime. Once in OT, UConn controlled the game and saw out the win. The Huskies also featured Alex Oriakhi (15 points, 11 rebounds) and Jeremy Lamb (11 points). Big East Championship Final - Connecticut Huskies (69) v (66) Louisville Cardinals - UConn's Kemba Walker ended a hard "5 games-in-5 days" stretch with a tournament winning performance, as UConn claimed their 7th Big East title. The Huskies led 38-32 at the half and a tight 2nd half was only settled when a game-winning 3 pointer from Louisville bounced off the rim at the buzzer. The Huskies were led by Walker (19 points) and also featured Jeremy Lamb (13 points, 7 rebounds). Louisville featured Preston Knowles (18 points) and Peyton Siva (13 points, 7 rebounds). Regular Season - Michigan State Spartans (55) v (67) North Carolina Tarheels - On Veterans day, both teams opened their season with a unique match-up outdoors on the flight-deck of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier moored in Coronado, California. With President Obama courtside, #1 ranked North Carolina ran out to a 36-25 lead at the half and coasted home in the 2nd half to take the win. The Spartans out-rebounded the Tarheels but were only 2-of-20 from 3 point range. North Carolina were led by Harrison Barnes (17 points, 5 rebounds), John Henson (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Tyler Zeller (9 points, 6 rebounds). Regular Season - Duke Blue Devils (74) v (69) Michigan State Spartans - On a record-setting night at Madison Square Garden, #6 ranked Duke beat Michigan State to give Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski his 903rd career win. The win put him #1 all-time in career wins in college basketball history, ahead of his mentor Bobby Knight who was courtside for the game. A close 1st half was blown open in the 2nd half when Duke went on a 20-1 run that put them ahead for good. Maui Invitiational 3rd Place - UCLA Bruins (63) v (79) Michigan Wolverines - #15 ranked Michigan sewed up 3rd place in the competition with a comfortable win against the Bruins. The Wolverines led 38-31 at the half and pulled away in the 2nd half, finishing the game with a 62% shooting efficeincy. Michigan were led by Zack Novak (22 points), Tim Hardaway Jr (20 points, 4 assists) and Jon Horford (12 points, 7 rebounds). Maui Invitiational Final - Kansas Jayhawks (61) v (68) Duke Blue Devils - In an entertaining, action-packed final, #6 ranked Duke extended their unbeaten run at the Maui Invitational with their 5th title. The teams were well matched and the game featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties before Duke took the lead for good with 1:10 left in the game. Duke were led by MVP Ryan Kelly (17 points), Mason Plumlee (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Austin Rivers (10 points). Regular Season - Georgetown Hoyas (61) @ (64) Syracuse Orangemen - #2 ranked Syracuse beat their Big East rivals and #15 ranked Georgetown, but needed a big game from Kris Joseph and Overtime to do so. Joseph scored a career high 29 points (including 6 three-pointers) as Syracuse rallied from a 31-27 half-time deficit to take a 54-48 lead with 4:36 left. The Hoyas rallied themselves and forced Overtime but the Orange took control in the extra period to take the win. Syracuse also featured Fab Melo (11 points, 7 rebounds), Dion Waiters (9 points) and Scoop Jardine (3 points, 8 assists). Georgetown were led by Otto Porter (14 points, 13 rebounds), Jason Clark (12 points) and Hollis Thompson (10 points, 10 rebounds) but were let down by shooting only 34% from the field. Regular Season - Duke Blue Devils (85) @ (84) North Carolina Tarheels - #10 ranked Duke upset #5 ranked North Carolina with a sensational rally and buzzer-beating shot to take the win in the big ACC rivalry game. The Tarheels led by 10 points with 2.5 minutes remaining in the game, but Duke stormed back and with the last play of the game, Freshman Austin Rivers (29 points, 5 rebounds) nailed a 3 pointer to win the game. Led by Trey Burke (17 points, 5 assists), Jordan Morgan (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Tim Hardway Jr (13 points) and a great Defensive effort, Michigan went in with a 25-20 lead at the half. Ohio Valley Conference Championship - Tennessee State Tigers (52) v (54) Murray State Racers - #12 ranked Murray State rescued their season with a late comeback to win the Ohio Valley Conference title. Tennessee State led 50-43 with 5:28 left before the Racers went on a 9-2 run to end the game including a game-winning bucket with 4 seconds left. The Racers were led by Isaiah Canaan (14 points), Donte Poole (14 points) and Ivan Aska (6 points, 5 rebounds). Regular Season - North Carolina Tarheels (88) @ (70) Duke Blue Devils - #6 ranked North Carolina avenged their home loss to their rivals with a dominating win that won them the regular season ACC title. The Tarheels never trailed in the game and led 48-24 at the half, the largest ever half-time deficit for Duke on it's home court, and shot 54.4% from the field as well as out-rebounding Duke 45-28. North Carolina were led by a big game from Kendall Marshall (20 points, 10 assists) and also featured Tyler Zeller (19 points, 10 rebounds) and John Henson (13 points, 10 rebounds). ACC Championship - Florida State Seminoles (85) v (82) North Carolina Tarheels - For the 1st time since 2004, neither North Carolina or Duke won the ACC Championship, as Florida State held off a strong Tarheel comeback to win it's 1st ever ACC title. Led by Tournament MVP Michael Snaer (18 points) the Seminoles built a 16 point lead en-route to a 49-40 lead at the half. The Tarheels fought back in the 2nd half behind the play of Tyler Zeller (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Harrison Barnes (23 points, 7 rebounds) but a final play 3 pointer missed to give the Seminoles the win. SEC Championship - Vanderbilt Commodores (71) v (64) Kentucky Wildcats - In a big upset, Vanderbilt upset #1 ranked Kentucky to win their 1st SEC title in 60 years. The Commodores used a 16-2 run in the final 5 minutes of the game to forge ahead and then used great Defense to seal the win, holding the Wildcats without a field goal over the final 8:04 of the game. Vanderbilt were led by Jeffery Taylor (18 points, 11 rebounds), John Jenkins (17 points) and Festus Ezeli (17 points, 6 rebounds). Kentucky were led by Darius Miller (16 points), Anthony Davis (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Terrence Jones (12 points, 11 rebounds). Regular Season - Michigan State Spartans (62) v (66) Connecticut Huskies - Both teams opened their seasons with a game at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Both teams wore camouflage uniforms. UConn, led by new head coach Kevin Ollie, upset #14 ranked Michigan State by starting and ending the game fast, led by Shabaz Napier (25 points) and Ryan Boatright (13 points). The Spartans were led by Keith Appling (17 points, 4 assists) and Branden Dawson (15 points, 10 rebounds) but were let down by the poor start and 15 turnovers (10, 2 Discs, ESPN - Shulman/Bilas, PAL)
Regular Season - Duke Blue Devils (75) v (68) Kentucky Wildcats - In the Champions Classic in Atlanta, Duke overcame a young Kentucky side to win the 1st match-up between the 2 teams since 2001. Duke led 33-31 at the half and seemed to have the game in hand when they used a 13-3 run to go up 58-44 with 9 minutes left. But Kentucky responded with a 17-6 run of their own to pull within 64-61 before Duke senior guard Seth Curry (23 points) led his team to victory. Duke also featured Mason Plumlee (18 points, 3 rebounds) and Rasheed Sulaimon (10 points, 6 rebounds). Regular Season - North Carolina State Wolfpack (69) v (65) Connecticut Huskies - In their 2nd trip to the Jimmy V classic in Madison Square Garden, the Wolfpack honoured the memory of their former coach with a tough win. The #25 ranked Wolfpack held a 32-31 lead at the half but rode a big 2nd half from senior Richard Howell (13 points, 10 rebounds) to take the win. The Wolfpack also featured CJ.Leslie (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Lorenzo Brown (16 points, 5 assists). Connecticut were led by Shabazz Napier (19 points) and Ryan Boatright (18 points, 6 rebounds). NC State wore special uniforms to commemorate the evening and friends of Jim Valvano were at courtside and in the stands. Regular Season - Detroit Titans (68) @ (72) Syracuse Orangemen - On an emotional night at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim celebrated becoming only the 3rd Division 1 coach ever to reach 900 wins. #3 ranked Syracuse dominated the 1st half, leading 40-21 at the break. But Detroit roared back with a 16-0 run in the 2nd half to pull within 67-63 before Syracuse iced the game with late free-throws. Syracuse were led by James Southerland (22 points) and Michael Carter-Williams (12 points, 10 assists). Regular Season - Pittsburgh Panthers (73) @ (45) Georgetown Hoyas - In their final visit to Georgetown as members of the Big East, Pitt inflicted the worst home defeat on #19 ranked Georgetown since 1971. The Panthers dominated all over the court, hitting on 4 of 5 3 pointers on Offense and forcing the Hoyas into 17 turnovers on Defense. The Buckeyes started the better, going on a 16-3 run early then building a 21 point lead before the break. Michigan fought back to trail only 34-22 at the half then came out strong in the 2nd half to trail 52-50 with 17 seconds left. But a game-winning 3 pointer rimmed out and the Buckeyes held on for the win. Regular Season - Syracuse Orangemen (70) @ (68) Louisville Cardinals - At a sold-out stadium in Louisville, #6 ranked Syracuse stunned #1 ranked Louisville to take control of the Big East conference. Both teams were evenly matched and tied at 38-38 at the half. Syracuse clinched the win with a dunk and a steal in the final seconds that ended Louisville's 1 week stay at #1. Texas Tech never trailed in the game as Tech's Keenan Evans (25 points) scored 17 points in the 1st half to give Tech a 41-25 lead at the break and they coasted home in the 2nd half to take the trophy. Playing without leading scorer Jahmi'us Ramsey due to injury, no one gave the Red Raiders much chance, but Defensively they held the Cardinals to only 34% shooting from the floor and used a strong 2nd half Offensively to take the win. Texas Tech led 31-28 at the half, then Davide Moretti finally caught fire, sinking two 3-pointers to pull Texas Tech ahead and they were never threatened after that. Under-manned North Carolina played their best game of a struggling season to forge ahead in the 1st half and went in at the break with a 44-35 lead. The Tarheels still held a 13 point lead entering the final 4.5 minutes of the game and seemed assured of a big win. But Duke fought back little by little and with the final play of regulation, Duke intentionally missed a free throw, gathered the rebound and hit the tieing 2 pointer to force Overtime. In the extra period Duke fought back from a 5 point deficit in the final 20.9 seconds and sensationally won the game on a last play put-back of an air-ball.
