First Four - UCLA Bruins (86) v (80) Michigan State Spartans - In a sensational game, UCLA upset Michigan State to enter the NCAA Tournament, but needed a big comeback and Overtime to do so. The Spartans started the better and held a 40-26 lead in the 1st half before going into the break ahead 44-33. UCLA rallied in the 2nd half and forced Overtime with 22 seconds left. And once in the extra period they scored the opening points before holding off the Spartans for the remarkable win. UCLA featured Jaime Jaquez Jr. (27 points, 4 rebounds), Johnny Juzang (23 points, 4 rebounds) and Jules Bernard (11 points, 8 rebounds). 1st Round - Abilene Christian Wildcats (53) v (52) Texas Longhorns - In only their 2nd ever NCAA Tournament game, #14 seed Abilene Christian pulled off a shock upset, taking down #3 seed Texas. The Wildcats used a combination of great Defense and an efficient Offense to keep the game close, and they sealed the win with 2 made free-throws with 1.2 seconds left. Abilene Christian featured Joe Pleasant (11 points, 8 rebounds), Coryon Mason (11 points) and Reggie Miller (7 points, 7 rebounds). Texas featured Andrew Jones (13 points, 5 assists), Kai Jones (11 points, 3 blocks) and Jericho Sims (10 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks). 2nd Round - Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (81) v (78) Florida Gators - #15 seed Oral Roberts stunned #7 seed Florida, using a big 2nd half to take the win. The Golden Eagles were down 11 points but went on a 25-11 run to end the game and used great Defense to keep the Gators from scoring any points in the final 2.5 minutes of the game. Florida dominated the stats (55% shooting, 37-24 rebounds and 42 points in the paint) but the also committed 20 turnovers and had just 3 made baskets over the final 9.5 minutes. Oral Roberts featured Kevin Obanor (28 points, 11 assists, 4 steals) and Max Abmas (26 points, 7 assists). 2nd Round - Syracuse Orangemen (75) v (72) West Virginia Mountaineers - In only the 2nd meeting between coaches with at least 900 Division I victories, it was #11 seed Syracuse and Jim Boeheim that advanced, upsetting #3 seed West Virginia and their coach Bob Huggins. The star for Syracuse was Coach Boeheim's son Buddy, who scored 22 of his 25 points after halftime and salted away the game by converting late free-throws. Syracuse also featured Joseph Girard III (12 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists), Marek Dolezaj (12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Quincy Guerrier (12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks). 2nd Round - Oregon Ducks (95) v (80) Iowa Hawkeyes - #7 seed Oregon upset #2 seed Iowa to advance to the Regional Semi-Final. It was the Ducks first game of the tournament after getting a bye through the 1st round when their opponent had to pull out with COVID-19 issues. Oregon started the game with 7 3-pointers and made 22 of 37 shots to lead 56-46 at halftime, then stretched their lead to 76-57 in the 2nd half. Iowa's All-American Luka Garza (36 points, 9 rebounds) valiantly tried to rescue the game but he was on his own and the Ducks easily held on for the win. Oregon featured Chris Duarte (23 points, 7 assists), LJ Figueroa (21 points, 7 rebounds), Will Richardson (19 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists) and Eugene Omoruyi (17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists). 2nd Round - Oklahoma Sooners (71) v (87) Gonzaga Bulldogs - #1 seed Gonzaga passed their biggest test yet in the tournament, holding off #8 seed Oklahoma to advance to the Regional Semi-Final. The Zags jumped on the Sooners in the 1st half, and went in at the break with a 46-34 lead. They extended their lead to 19 points before Oklahoma went on a late run to make the score more respectable, but the Zags were never in trouble. Gonzaga featured Drew Timme (30 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists), Corey Kispert (16 points), Jalen Suggs (16 points) and Joel Ayayi (12 points, 8 rebounds). 2nd Round - LSU Tigers (78) v (86) Michigan Wolverines - #1 seed Michigan overcame a big game from #8 seed LSU to book their place in the Regional Semi-Final, but it took a strong 2nd half to do so. LSU used a big-shooting 1st half to go in at the break only down by 1, 43-42, but Michigan took control in the 2nd half, using great Defense and great bench play to wear down the Tigers. A 14-1 run by the Wolverines midway through the 2nd half broke the Tigers, and Michigan eased away for the win. Michigan featured Eli Brooks (21 points), Franz Wagner (15 points, 7 rebounds) and Hunter Dickenson (12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists) plus a big game off the bench from Chaundee Brown Jr. (21 points). 2nd Round - USC Trojans (85) v (51) Kansas Jayhawks - #6 seed USC dominated #3 seed Kansas and inflicted on them their worst ever margin-of-defeat loss in the NCAA Tournament. The Trojans were unstoppable on Offense, hitting on 11 of 18 from the 3-point arc and shooting 57% from the field overall, while on Defense they out-rebounded them 43-27 and held the Jayhawks to only 29% shooting. USC took control in the 1st half, going in at the break with a 40-21 lead, then coasted home in the 2nd half. USC featured Isaiah Mobley (17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists), Evan Mobley (10 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists), Isaiah White (13 points) and Tahj Eaddy (12 points). Regional Semi-Final - Creighton Bluejays (65) v (83) Gonzaga Bulldogs - #1 seed Gonzaga booked their place in the Elite Eight for the 4th time in 6 years with a comfortable win over Creighton. Gonzaga never trailed in the game, led 43-33 at halftime and coasted home in the 2nd half. Gonzaga featured Drew Timme (22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), Andrew Nembhard (17 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists) and Joel Ayayi (13 points, 8 rebounds). Regional Semi-Final - Florida State Seminoles (58) v (76) Michigan Wolverines - #1 seed Michigan dominated #4 seed Florida State in the paint to move on to the Regional Finals for the first time since 2018. The Wolverines were the better team on both ends of the court. On Offense they out-scored the Seminoles under the basket 50-28. On Defense they forced the Seminoles into 14 turnovers and held them to no 3-pointers over the first 24 minutes, and only 5 of 20 for the game. Michigan led 32-21 at the half and coasted home in the 2nd half to the win. Regional Semi-Final - UCLA Bruins (88) v (78) Alabama Crimson Tide - #11 seed UCLA booked their place in the Regional Finals for the first time since 2008 with a big win over the SEC Champions, #2 seed Alabama, but needed Overtime to do so. The Bruins took a big lead in at the half, 40-29, but the Tide fought back and forced Overtime with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. UCLA didn't falter though, and scored the first 5 points of Overtime to take a commanding lead that they saw out at the free-throw line the rest of the way. All 5 of the UCLA starters scored in double figures. UCLA featured Jaime Jaquez jr. Regional Semi-Final - Oregon Ducks (68) v (82) USC Trojans - #6 seed USC put it all together on both ends of the court to upset their PAC-12 neighbours, #7 seed Oregon. With the win the Trojans booked a place in their first Regional Final in 20 years. The Ducks struggled with the USC defense in the 1st half, while the USC Offense caught fire, shooting 57% and 10 of 17 from 3. USC went in at the break with a 41-26 lead and never looked in trouble in the 2nd half as they coasted to victory. Regional Final - Oregon State Beavers (61) v (67) Houston Cougars - #2 seed Houston ended #12 seed Oregon State's amazing run in the tournament, and booked a place in their first Final Four since 1984. Houston dominated the 1st half and took a 34-17 lead in at the half. But Oregon State fought back by shooting 56% after halftime while committing just 2 turnovers in the second-half. With the scored tie at 55 with 3.5 minutes to play, the Cougars defense stepped up again, holding the Beavers to only 1 more basket from the field the rest of the way, and closed out the game to take the win. Regional Final - Baylor Bears (81) v (72) Arkansas Razorbacks - #1 seed Baylor booked their place in their first Final Four since 1948 with a strong defensive performance against their old SWC foes, #3 seed Arkansas. The Bears eased out to an early 18 point lead, but the Razorbacks fought back hard to close the gap to just 5 points in the 2nd half before Baylor rallied again to pull away for the win. Regional Final - USC Trojans (66) v (85) Gonzaga Bulldogs - #1 seed Gonzaga showed they were the real deal as they dominated #6 seed USC, booked their place in the Final Four and extended their unbeaten season to 30 games. The Bulldogs put on a show, show-casing fancy bounce passes through traffic, reverse layups and swooping power dunks, as 3 of the starting 5 scored 18 points or more. But they were strong on Defense too, holding the Trojans to 39% shooting and out-rebounding them 41 to 29. Regional Final - UCLA Bruins (51) v (49) Michigan Wolverines - In a huge upset, #11 seed UCLA became the first team since VCU in 2011 to advance from the First Four to the Final Four, holding on to upset #1 seed Michigan 51-49. UCLA executed a perfect game-plan against the Wolverines, forcing Michigan into tough shots, while on Offense guard Johnny Juzang (28 points) continued his impressive start to the tournament. The Bruins led for most of the final 25 minutes of the game, but only by 1 point with 6 seconds to play. Michigan had 3 chances to take the lead or force Overtime in the time left but couldn't convert on any of them and UCLA held on for the win. The Bears built a 45-20 lead by halftime and coasted the rest of the way. 5 Baylor players scored in double figures while the Bears defense held the Cougars to 38% shooting and forced 11 turnovers. Final Four - UCLA Bruins (90) v (93) Gonzaga Bulldogs - In one of the greatest games in NCAA Tournament history, #1 seed Gonzaga finally saw off #11 seed UCLA but needed Overtime and a last play 45-foot buzzer-beater to do so. With the win, Gonzaga extended their unbeaten season to 31 games and booked their place in their 2nd National Championship game. UCLA played tough all game, forcing their way back into the game when it seemed like Gonzaga were about to pull away. The game featured 15 ties and 19 lead changes and came down to the last 3.3 seconds of Overtime. UCLA scored on a put-back to tie the game at 90-90, and Jalen Suggs received the in-bound pass, ran to just past half-court and banked in the game-winning 3-pointer as the horn sounded for the dramatic win. National Championship - Baylor Bears (86) v (70) Gonzaga Bulldogs - #1 seed Baylor finally won their first National Championship, beating fellow #1 seed Gonzaga and inflicting on them their first loss of the season. Baylor came out of the blocks on fire on both ends of the floor and ran out to 29-10 half way through the 1st half before the Zags knew what hit them. The game was over at that point, as the Zags couldn't close the gap the rest of the way. Gonzaga shot 51% from the field but Baylor hit 44% on 3-pointers and also forced 14 turnovers to stymie any chance of a Bulldogs comeback. Baylor featured Jared Butler (22 points, 7 assists), Macio Teague (19 points), Davion Mitchell (15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Adam Flagler (13 points). 1st Round - St.Peters Peacocks (85) v (79) Kentucky Wildcats - #15 seed St.Peters shocked #2 seed Kentucky in Indianapolis, beating the Wildcats in Overtime. The game featured 16 ties and 13 lead changes. Kentucky looked to have held off a strong Peacocks effort but Doug Edert's layup with 24 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime. Once there, St.Peters pulled away and saw out the game for the sensational win. St.Peters featured Daryl Banks III (27 points, 4 rebounds), Doug Edert (20 points, 4 rebounds) and Hassan Drame (7 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists). 2nd Round - Memphis Tigers (78) v (82) Gonzaga Bulldogs - #1 overall seed Gonzaga overcame a big half-time deficit to beat upset-minded #9 seed Memphis and book their place in the next round. The Tigers dominated the Zags in the 1st half and took a 41-31 lead in at the half. Zags leader Drew Timme read the team the riot act at the break and Gonzaga roared back in the 2nd half, led by Timme scoring the first 11 points, and held off the Tigers late on with solid free-throw shotting to seal the win. Gonzaga featured Drew Timme (25 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists), Andrew Nembhard (23 points, 5 assists), Rasir Bolton (17 points) and Chet Holmgren (9 points, 9 rebounds). Regional Semi-Final - Arkansas Razorbacks (74) v (68) Gonzaga Bulldogs - In a big upset, #4 seed upset #1 overall seed Gonzaga at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The Razorbacks were too physical for the Zags, limiting them to shooting 37.5% from the field and only 5 of 21 from 3-point range. Arkansas led 32-29 at the half and, despite the best efforts of the Zags leaders, the Razorbacks held on for the win. Arkansas featured JD Notae (21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals), Jaylin Williams (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Trey Wade (15 points, 7 rebounds). Regional Semi-Final - Texas Tech Red Raiders (73) v (78) Duke Blue Devils - #2 seed Duke put on a 2nd half clinic at the Chase Center in San Francisco to beat #3 seed Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were up 33-29 at the half, but the Blue Devils shot 71% percent in the second half and did not miss a field goal attempt over the final 8:53 of the game to win the game. Duke featured Paolo Banchero (22 points, 4 assists), Mark Williams (16 points, 8 rebounds) and Jeremy Roach (15 points, 5 assists). Regional Semi-Final - St.Peters Peacocks (67) v (64) Purdue Boilermakers - #15 seed St.Peters stunned #3 seed Purdue to book their place in the Regional Final, the first time a #15 seed had ever been that far. Both teams were evenly matched and the game came down to the final moments, as the Boilermakers sank a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to pull within 65-64, only for the Peacocks to hit on 2 free throws to seal the win. As good as the Peacocks were, the Boilermakers missed 16 of 21 3-pointers and made 15 turnovers to doom any chance they had to win the game. St.Peters featured Daryl Banks III (14 points), Clarence Rupert (11 points, 3 steals) and Doug Edert (10 points). Regional Semi-Final - North Carolina Tarheels (73) v (66) UCLA Bruins - #8 seed North Carolina squeaked by #4 seed UCLA in a tight game in Philadelphia. UCLA led North Carolina at halftime, 31-28, but the Tarheels fought back in the 2nd half and hit the front for good with 1:06 left and used great Defense to close out the game and book their place in the Regional Final. North Carolina featured Caleb love (30 points, 4 assists), who had a huge game, Armando Bacot (14 points, 15 rebounds) and Brady Manek (13 points, 8 rebounds), who was ejected from the game late in the 4th quarter. Regional Final - Arkansas Razorbacks (69) v (78) Duke Blue Devils - #2 seed Duke booked their place in the Final Four with a great all-around performance in San Francisco. With the win, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski booked his place in a record-setting 13th Final Four. Duke dominated from the off and ran out to a 45-33 lead at the half, then kept the Razorbacks at arms length the rest of the way to take the win. Duke featured AJ Griffin (18 points), Paolo Banchero (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Wendell Moore Jr. (14 points). Regional Final - St.Peters Peacocks (49) v (69) North Carolina Tarheels - #8 seed North Carolina dramatically ended #15 seed St.Peters run in the tournament with a tough win at the Wells Fargo Center on Philadelphia. All the damage was done in the 1st half as the Tarheels over-powered the Peacocks, going in at the break with a 38-19 lead. The 2nd half turned in to a procession, as the Peacocks had no answer for the Tarheels big men, and North Carolina cruised into the Regional Final. Final Four - North Carolina Tarheels (81) v (77) Duke Blue Devils - In their first ever meeting in the NCAA Tournament, North Carolina beat their big rivals Duke and booked a place in their 12th National Championship. The loss for Duke also proved to be the final game for Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski, who retired after the game after 42 years at the Blue Devils. In a back-and-forth game where neither team led by more than 7 points, and their were 18 lead changes and 12 ties, the Tarheels hit the front for good with 1:19 left and held off the Blue Devils with late free-throws to seal the win. North Carolina featured Caleb Love (28 points), RJ Davis (18 points, 4 assists), Brady Manek (14 points, 3 blocks) and Armando Bacot (11 points, 21 rebounds). National Championship - North Carolina Tarheels (69) v (72) Kansas Jayhawks - In one of the greatest National Championship games, #1 seed Kansas won their 4th title with a record comeback at the Superdome in New Orleans. #8 seed North Carolina dominated the 1st half and took a 40-25 lead in at the break. But the Jayhawks came out a different team in the 2nd half, and in the opening 10 minutes they went on a 31–10 run to get back in the game. The game changed in the final 2 minutes, when the Tarheels lost big man Armando Bacot to injury, and Kansas capitalised by taking the lead that they defended to the end. North Carolina missed their final four shots of the game. The 16-point comeback was the largest comeback in National Championship game history. Kansas featured David McCormack (15 points, 10 rebounds), Jalen Wilson (15 points, 2 assists), Christian Braun (12 points, 12 rebounds) and tournament MVP Ochai Agbaji (12 points, 3 rebounds).
