The Crows erased a 25-point lead in the 3rd quarter before Geelong's star Forward Tom Hawkins eased the Cats back ahead with 3 goals in 10 minutes to give the Cats the lead that they defended to the end for the big road win. But the Bulldogs sensed the Cats were tireing and put on the pressure, kicking the final 3 goals of the game to pull within 4 points before running out of time to complete the comeback. Geelong were celebrating star Forward Tom Hawkins, who broke Joel Selwood's 355-game club record, but the Giants weren't rolling over and ran out to a 31-point lead in the 3rd quarter. The Cats scored 5 unanswered goals to get back in the game, but GWS held off the Cats at the death and took the win. With the win, Geelong moved into the top 4 of the table. With the game in the balance, Geelong showed their post-season credentials by scoring the last 2 goals of the game to take the win. In the 2nd half, the Eagles made the score more respectable, but the Cats still scored another goals to finish with 26 goals in total.
