Qualifying Final - Geelong Cats (88) v (68) West Coast Eagles - Geelong finally won a big game in September, upsetting the reigning Premiers at the MCG to move on to the Preliminary Final. West Coast started slow and Geelong took advantage, posting a 45-35 lead at the half. West Coast turned the game around in the 3rd quarter and led 67-63 at the final break, but Geelong re-grouped and dominated the 4th quarter, kicking 4 goals to only 1 behind for the Eagles to take the win. The stars for Geelong were Cam Guthrie (33 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles), Joel Selwood (1 goal, 26 disposals, 11 marks, 4 tackles) and Tom Hawkins (4 goals, 6 marks). West Coast featured Andrew Gaff (2 goals, 30 disposals, 7 marks), Jack Darling (3 goals, 5 marks, 5 tackles) and Nic Naitanui (14 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles) but were missing Willie Rioli, who failed a drugs test earlier in the week before the game (9, 2 Discs, CH7 - McAvaney/Taylor/Carey/Richardson/Pearce, PAL)

Preliminary Final - Richmond Tigers (85) v (66) Geelong Cats - In one of the games of the season, Richmond fought back from a 21 point deficit at half-time to book a place in their 2nd Grand Final in 3 years. Geelong dominated the 1st half, kicking 7 goals, while running out to a 50-29 lead. But the Tigers re-grouped at half-time and opened the 3rd quarter with 5 unanswered goals to wrestle back momentum and the lead and held off the Cats the rest of the way to win the game. The Tigers were led by huge games from Tom Lynch (5 goals, 19 disposals and 10 marks), Bachar Houli (32 disposals, 11 marks) and Dion Prestia (2 goals, 28 disposals) Geelong were led by Tim Kelly (3 goals, 31 disposals, 9 marks), in his final game for Geelong, Joel Selwood (30 disposals, 7 tackles), Patrick Dangerfield (1 goal, 27 disposals) and Gryan Miers (2 goals, 22 disposals, 5 marks) but were missing forward Tom Hawkins to a suspension (10, 2 Discs, CH7 - McAvaney/Taylor/Ling/Richardson/Pearce, PAL)
